Last night for those who were at the game and have seen Will Ferrell's movie "Semi Pro" you wonder if DePaul has a suit against Will for getting all his inspiration from a DePaul home-game and have yet to receive a royalty check in return.

For those who haven't seen Semi Pro, 1) I'm envious of you and 2) It is about an ABA team in Flint Michigan where bad play, silly time-out entertainment and low attendance are common place.  The parallels between this movie and DePaul's current state of affairs are scary.  For example:

*Once again DePaul ability to draw is embarrassing.  Four entire sections of the arena had not one soul sitting in them (I joked to my friends that those sections were reserved for the "Tom Crean Fan Club").

*At one point the camera pointed out that DePaul great Mark Aguire was in attendance and they showed   him and his female guest completely by themselves acknowledging the camera and the crowd's cheer.  You would of thought he was in the upper balcony somewhere with no one else in the camera shot with him but in fact he was on the first level just behind the basket.  The only reason why the half court sections were somewhat full was once again because 60% of the crowd there was Marquette fans.  I'm sure a Rutgers vs. DePaul game would draw only 2,000 (of course the box score would say 5,000 as they need to count the season ticket alumni no-shows to not embarrass the AD too much).

*One of the full time out's they got two DePaul students to do a karaoke contest but the DePaul announcer spent ten minutes announcing them  saying the same thing three times that by the time the second girl got ready to sing they ripped the microphone out of her hand as there was no more time left.

*Finally the half-time "entertainment" was a guy who has no joints and likes to throw his legs over his head and scurry along the court on his bottom.  He then follows that up with throwing his shoulder and elbow out of kilter to slide a small-head (70's Jimmy Connor's version) string-less tennis racket over his head all the way down his body.....nothing like being grossed out for half-time entertainment.

Oh....of course there was a game also.....well the game and the quality of play Marquette brought last night greatly mirrored the above.  I made a comment to my friends with four minutes to go in the 1st half that the good news is DePaul has only scored 10 points the bad news is we've only scored 18.  The following minutes to close out the half were pathetic as DePaul started to gain confidence that they were still in the game and started to become world beaters by making all their shots which in the first ten minutes of the game they were badly missing shots that were clanging off the backboard and often times not even hitting the rim.  By halftime I knew we were going to lose as I knew we didn't break their spirit early on and we were playing tight and timid, reckless, careless and apathetic.

In conclusion I could write a longer post and breakdown things that drive me nuts about this team and last night's game.  But the bottom line is this game was lost way before the missed free-throws at the end.  I love Buzz but sometimes he leaves me wondering if knows what he's doing as last night was the single worst Marquette basketball game I ever had to sit through in so many ways.
