Recap: Villanova (Round 2)

Villanova, Pa. -- The Marquette Golden Eagles gave themselves a chance late by stringing together what coach Buzz Williams refers to as consecutive defensive stops.

After Scottie Reynolds' three with 3 minutes 3 seconds remaining gave Villanova a 75-67 lead, MU forced Villanova into two misses and three turnovers. That stand allowed the Golden Eagles to pull to within 75-73 with 27.0 seconds left, and a chance to win the game on what could -- should -- have been the final possession.

We all know how things turned out, but it would have been interesting to see what the final score would have been had they been even remotely that good defensively longer in the second half. As it turned out, they allowed the Wildcats to shoot 62.5% over the final 20 minutes -- a performance reminiscent of the one turned in on Dec. 5, when North Carolina State shocked MU at the Bradley Center.
