One thing that Maymon needs to learn in his life is that you cannot project what your situation will be in one year.   In Oct. 2007, we all probably thought that the stock market would be much better than it was in Oct. 2008.  We all had to probably make adjustments in our lives based on this situation.

Maymon saw 4 starters graduating and only one junior returning.  Otherwise, everything looked wide open.  Butler was on the team, but did not look any good last Nov.  Butler, however, has improved so much that he demands 30-35 mins a game.  DJO was not around.  He is a 2 or a 3 and demands significant minutes too.  Otule and Liam went down, so now there was no one at the 5.

So, Maymon's "guaranteed" time was not so "guaranteed" anymore.  He should have competed for time and showed the coach that he can contribute no matter where he was on the court.  He could have been the next Hayward who played mostly a 4 spot, but in Buzz's offense, the 2, 3, and 4 are all the same basically.

So, quitting is never going to solve it.  I would love him to learn this lesson and come back actually.  I think if he truly learned a lesson he should be allowed back.  However, you cannot predict the future.  You cannot be certain of your circumstances one year from now.  To be honest, 15-20 minutes on a high major team as a freshman is still pretty good.  Even if it was at center.

Great post.  I agree with everything.

O'Tule will be back and Mbao should see several more minutes next year.  The team needs Maymon at the 5.  Like several other posters have pointed out Lazar has been playing out of postition for 4 years because it's where the team needs him.  If you can't take one for the team for 1 more semester, good luck in the future but kindly leave.

Incidentally, if he sees himself as a guard, don't you think the experience he gains playing in the post would serve him well in the future? Who wouldn't want a guard who could post up the other team's guards?

I agree with you totally as well. You don't get anywhere by quitting just because things aren't handed to you on a silver platter. And what is Jeronne entitled too anyway? It's a privledge to have your college paid for, let alone from one in the Big East.

I hope him and Buzz and his dad have a come-to-jesus-meeting. And who knows how this plays out now.

As upset as I am over this, the team still will have five top 100 (almost six) recruits on the team next year, along with two of the top JuCo players in the country. Buzz can't be selling them all a bill o' goods to be getting this many talented guys.

If Jeronne was the only top 100 guy Buzz landed, I'd have jumped off the ledge already.

I see your point, but when the "guard" doesn't want to post anyone up, what can you do?

I hate to say anything at this point because I know nothing, but I do think Jeronne fancying himself as a guard is comical.

6-6, 250 guard. i don't think so.

This is the most (and possibly the only) rational thing that's been posted here in the last 18 hours or so. Well done, Hoops.

I hope this decision isn't final, and that Jeronne decides to stay with MU. The stipulation, of course, is just what you said, Hoops: that he learns a lesson from this and dedicates himself to doing whatever he can to help the team win.
