MU bars in the Quad Cities?
« on: November 10, 2009, 02:02:22 PM »
I'm moving to the quad cities in about 19 days for a job.

Anyone have any recommendations for bars for games? Or heck, rec's for places to live? I'll be working in Milan, but of course most places in the QC don't seem terribly far from any other places in terms of location. I was thinking the downtown Davenport area.

Thanks.

Downtown Rock Island has decent barscene especially in the weekends in summer.

It's been a while since I lived there, and I lived and worked on the Iowa side, so I may be completely out of touch...

Ditto on downtown Rock Island, and I generally had good luck watching Marquette games at Old Chicago in Bettendorf.

In terms of where to live, it really depends what you're looking for. I personally wouldn't recommend downtown Davenport - it was kinda sketchy and there's not a lot going on after hours. I lived off of 53rd St. on the Davenport/Bettendorf border and liked it there, and the places off Jersey Ridge and Kimberly are also nice, but they have more of a suburban feel to them. I liked the Village of East Davenport too - it's an historic neighborhood and close to downtown but nicer.

And just a word of advice if you're looking near the river - investigate the flood history, particularly in Davenport.

I'm visiting 3 places tomorrow and Saturday. Two on about 53rd street and one in Bettendorf (right by the high school). There are a couple other places (one by St. Ambrose and another near the river in Bettendorf) that I haven't heard responses from.

The Village of East Davenport thing looks nice. I couldn't quickly find any apartment listings in the area. Do many people live in the area, in apartments? I'd like to investigate that. Looks like they have a good half-dozen bars in the area.

How's the life off 53rd street in Davenport? Are there any bars in that area or do you have to go towards downtown (of Davenport and Rock Island)?

Thanks.

I always went to Rock Island for the bar scene. The 53rd St./I-74 area was just developing when I lived there. I know there were some restaurants going in, and Old Chicago was down the road, but I don't know about any other bars in that area- they may be there now, but they weren't when I was there. I think there were quite a few on Kimberly.

As far as the Village, I don't remember any apartment complexes, but I know people rented duplex apartments and houses.

Good luck!
