soviet game

just heard about this the other day.  Is there a story behind that game in the 1970's(I think in the 70's) with Marquette playing the Soviet national team at like midnight or something?  Searched the internet a bit and couldn't find much, just seeing if anyone has any good stories.

I am not familiar with a game in the '70's, but...

MU played the Soviet team in the Fall of 1987, but the game wasn't at midnight.  However, it happened to be daylight savings time and the Soviet coaching staff didn't quite understand the concept, so they had all of their players get up at midnight to adjust their clocks/watches.  They didn't understand that you could simply turn back the clocks earlier, before you went to bed.

I was there. Russian National Team had upset the USA in the '72 Olympics on a controversial ending. This was the first loss for the US in international play. At that time, only amateurs were allowed on the team. MU scheduled an exhibition game vs. Russia prior to the next season. The game started at 12:01 a.m. on the first day the NCAA allowed exhibitions to be played.
Very festive crowd at the Arena as many celebrated prior to the game. Needless to say, the Warriors kicked their collective asses and folks joyfully left around 2 a.m. when the game ended.
