I find it interesting how Erik Williams seems to be getting lost in the shuffle.  Where's the love for Williams?

FWIW - I've got him penciled in for super-sub of the year.  Maybe not 6th man (since we've got a few 6th men already...), but a guy that's gonna' come in, do his job efficiently, but not make a lot of noise (short of some shot altering blocks).

Of course, I'd love for him to have more of an impact than that. Based on the scrimmage, I liked what I saw.

I would hope the feeling is mutual.  If we can get him, let's do it.  Sounds like he'd be a perfect fit for what we're building, as it says he's perfect for an up-and-down offense.  It also says that he is a great kid.  I'd love to get him.  Make the most of that Texas connection, Buzz.

Any news on Freddy Asprilla?  It origionally sounded like he was K-State's to loose.  I love this guy's skill set and as a Junior I believe he could come in and play some major minutes.

According to the site Metroplex Hoops, MU and Georgetown had an in-home visits with Mitchell in late September. That same site is the one reporting that MU is in his final four.

"Florida International made a journey back to metroplex as they had an in-home visit with Tony Mitchell of Pinkston. Looks like Isaiah Thomas and Co. are determined to get a Dallas/Fort Worth area kid. With a top four of FIU, Georgetown, Marquette, and Missouri, a decision may be imminent. Look for local floor general Phil Pressey (ESD) to start politicing for the Missouri Tigers."

Sounds good.  I'd love to have him and black close out the class.

The only problem is, neither one of those guys address the biggest thing missing from our recruiting as of late...a great outside shooter.  All of the guys we've signed recently, or gotten commitments from recently are all very good players, but not great shooters.  And you need at least one of those to go far.

I suppose if Buzz is going to go to the old Nolan Richardson 40 Minutes of Hell strategy they'd be great, but even Nolan had outside shooters.

Thi syear we have an issue with outside shooters, but aren't Junior and Blue good outside shooters?

I guess it depends on how you define good.  You give them a wide open three, chances are they'll hit it, but they aren't the kind of players that you would expect to be consistent shooters either coming of a screen or pulling up from beyond the arc.

I'm not saying we need another Novak, but some guy that can come in and be a zone buster, or at least some guy that consistently shoots well from the outside would be perfect.  Right now, the team as it's made up doesn't really have that.

P'Shon Howard can shoot it, cant he?

was howard at Madness?

Actually at this point i cannot see a nother guard wanting to attend Mu in the 2010 class, i mean we are loaded at the guard now.

Tough to say.  I've seen some comments that call him an elite shooter, and some that say he's streaky and doesn't yet have range out to the 3 point line.  So I don't know if he improved, or if whoever thought he was great happened to catch him during his hot streak.

I guess my ultimate wish would be some sort of European style big man with outside range or someone like Novak that had big man size but great shooting touch, just so we don't have to worry about having too many people for one position.

Don't forget SF also.  Williams, Jones, Maymon and Fulce.  Jeez, we are actually going to be loaded aren't we?  Whoops, forgot Butler.  Good grief......

From anything I've read, Jamail Jones is supposed to a very good outside shooter with a pure stroke:

"Jones is a strong athlete that can knock down open shots. At 6-6 and 200 pounds Jones has great size for a wing. He hit three's off the catch and when he spots up in transition or spacing on the side of dribble penetration in the half court."

If we're going to get a pure shooter, you need a force on the blocks to open up the shots on the perimeter.
And remember it's got to be a STUD big man...

Tarik may NOT be a big man - as in a center - but he's a stud and we NEED him.

Heck, if Asprilla wisens up, he may see that something good is brewing in Milwaukee, and it ain't the brew.

RE: Williams, he's athletic and long...but I don't see him blowing it up until he gets a season's worth of subbing this year. The practices and on-court minutes as well as the off-season training will harden him for a blow-out sophomore campaign. STICKY this prediction...

Take what ESPN says with a grain of salt.  Not that he's not a good shooter, but in their evaluation from the month before they pretty much are shocked that he's even a competent shooter as they believed he was at his best as a slasher and off the dribble.  Not even 3 weeks later they suddenly decided that he was at his best as a spot up shooter,  and needed to work on everything else.

ESPN can be a decent service eventually, but right now they have major issues.  They have too many different talent evaluators involved in the process, so you get wildly different views depending upon which person saw the player on that day.

YoungMUFan4

I've seen Jones play...he has a good stroke.  Is he going to be a Novak-like marksman from downtown? no but i would say he has a better shot than Dom, Jerel or Wes.

ceh

BMA, does Mike Shaw fit the bill of a kid you are looking for?  He's seems to be a skilled 4 man with a 15 ft+ jumper.  He many not have the range you would like in a fwd jump shooter, but it  does not hurt that Mike comes with 5* monster guard Wayne Blackshear.  I also like the fact that these are IL guys.  May be a pipedream, but I think most write-off shaw because he's in the shadow of Blackshear.

flamesfan724

I would love to see Buzz get Tarik Black or someone with a similar skill set. I think Marquette is missing that PF/C toughness that is needed for the Big East schedule. A big, brusing traffic rebounder that will put up double-doubles every night. I have to see how much improvement Otule made in the offseason, but I feel like we need a Tarik Black if we are going to be a real big east/big dance contender in the future. Either way, Buzz is doing a great job!

MU needs a  4 or 5 star 4/5 player ideally! Forget about a pure shooter. Is there anyway we can have an idea as to what JUCO players are considering us? Seems like we can only follow HS players!

Every team in the nation could use a 5-star 4/5 player.

But were one of the few teams in the BE not to really ever have one! Even Depaul has picked them up!
