I read Rosiak's Friday article and it reminded me of when Crean took the 3 Amigos to this event as Freshmen, leaving Senior Joe Chapman to burn with shame back home. This outrageous decision constituted nothing less than a slap in the face to a fine young man who never gave the team anything less than 110%. Williams, on the other hand, took the seniors, as it should be. Crean was a jackhole in so many ways, so very many ways...


Getting their shot: Having spent their first three seasons at MU as relatively anonymous players, and in the shadows of the Big Three, traveling to New York to take part in Big East media day on Wednesday went over well with seniors David Cubillan and Maurice Acker.

"They really enjoyed it," said Williams. "We get them a suit, shirt and tie, and we turn that into a couple life lessons. It's a good experience for them. It's something they'll always remember as seniors. I take them to dinner the night before in Times Square, and it was a lot of fun.

I think Crean wanted everyone to know that he could actaully land a better than 3 star recruit after 3 staright years of landing barely better than D2 talent.

Makes one wonder where Mu would be right now if Tommy Naismith had actually blessed us with staying.  Could he replace the 3 amigos with as much talent as Buzz did.  the 2 seasons after the final 4 and the recruiting classes he signed after the 3 amigos would indicate the answer to be no.  Now we all know the apologist will reference Tyshawn Taylor but we need more than 1 player, additonally we would probably have no big men and about a 50% chance taylor transfers anyway.

I pointed out how ridiculous that was at the time and was deemed a "hater" (which I am). Anybody with any sense of decency would take the seniors. I'm willing to wager even the other BE coaches realized that a-hole has zero sense.

I'll go you one further. Joe Chapman should have been a starter from day 1 as a senior. He was a Warrior as a junior, carrying the team to victory over St. Louis, despite puking his brains out on the bench. His starting job was given to Matthews, who frankly did not deserve it as a freshman. Obviously Wesley proved to be a very good player for Marquette, but coming off the bench for 20 minutes a game as a freshman wouldn't have hurt him. Joe deserved to start...which it turns out he did after WM got hurt.

Now we all know the apologist will reference Tyshawn Taylor but we need more than 1 player, additonally we would probably have no big men and about a 50% chance taylor transfers anyway. 

I don't think TT transferring of begging out of his scholly from MU is that far-fetched if TC stays.  He clearly jumped over MU as a HS senior and all I heard from people in the know (and people who are HUGE TC folks and mouthpieces) was that TT was miserable over his visit weekend, TC sensed this, stuck Buzz on him and boom, commitment. 

Bob Sr is a man who kknows how to play the game, he may have figured out a way to get TT to KU regardless of the coach.

Of course we would have still had Nick Williams...you know the next Dwyane Wade.

Crean is constantly looking for the next DWade. He never has understood that lightning never strikes twice in the same spot. Keep searching for your next meal ticket, TC, but first remove your upper appendage from the lower portion of your digestive tract.

Joe deserved to start...

The shameful, indeed hateful, treatment of Chapman by Crean was a clear, unambiguous indication of the Tan Man's utter lack of loyalty. Chapman had earned the right to start as a senior. Crean kicked him to the curb like last week's fish dinner. Imagine the sting Chapman felt at not being allowed to represent MU at that year's BE Media Day. I wonder how Tan Tommy broke that bit of news to his seniors...or if he even extended to them that courtesy.

I wonder how Tan Tommy viewed Chapman once Wes broke his foot...gotta believe II,II saw Joe in a whole new light. Crean is a real jackhole...no two ways about it.

Crean made some mistakes, but starting Wes over Chapman was definitely not one of them.  Plain and simple, Matthews was a better player than Joe the second he stepped on campus.

Sorry, but your comment about Wesley is revisionist history.  When Wes went down with his injury, he had several outstanding performances already.  He was simply outperforming Chapman.  Can't fault Joe's effort.  But, Wesley simply earned the PT.

Honestly... outrage?

Despite basketball being a team game, it is also one that is driven by the best players.  The best players on that team were Novak and the three Amigos.  Grimm and Chapman may have been seniors, but they were not good players. 

Is it really that outrageous to bring your best players?

Now it's "barely better than D2 talent" when only a few days ago it was D2 talent.   Hyperbole Hayward at it again.
