Travis Diener threw out the first pitch at the White Sox-Orioles game today. They played the MU fight song before he split the plate with an 85 mph heater. Didn't he throw a no hitter (maybe a perfect game?) in high school?

Perfect game.  He was a damn good pitcher.  First team all conference and honorable mention all state as a senior.

MUBasketball

Yes he was a very good high school pitcher. I played against him and on the same teams as him in baseball. He would have been good in college as a pitcher as well.

MU gimp ONE

personally, i think this is awesome as i love the white sox and travis diener.  however, I'm wondering what the correlation between the two are.  I'm sure there are a 100 other athletes that would throw out a first pitch.  diener isn't from chicago, nor does he play for a chicago team.  I'm pretty sure he mentioned he was a sox fan, but is that the only requirement nowadays?  maybe diener will be coming to the bulls as a backup to rose, letting hinrich play the 2 spot with gordon gone.

Those Bulls' spots are already spoken for by James, McNeal, and Matthews.

Agree on the lack of correlation...they must be running out of ideas for people if Diener's throwing out the first pitch.  When I read "Diener throws out 1st pitch" I was expecting it to be at the Timber Rattlers game.

First Jerel McNeal and now Travis Diener at the Cell?!?  I think there's a few MU alumni in the marketing/p.r. department for the White Sox.  I'll call my friend/client who used to work for the Sox as an intern while attending MU to find out if there is a connection.  Not to mention there are a ton of us irish catholic MU alumni on the south side.

MU gimp ONE

good, and I'll call my friend's brother who used to sell peanuts in the stands at comiskey when he was in high school to see what connection diener has to the white sox.

IIRC when Jerel did the honor earlier this year, someone said that it was lined up by an MU alum that works for the Sox.  I'm sure the same guy got Diener in there.

If not, I'll call my wife's cousin who I had a beer with once while watching a Brewers-Sox game on TV and see if he can determine the connection.

Sounds like as quality of a connection as Toms.

Screw all that. Just call Crean. I'm sure he'll take credit for the gig.

He's responsible for getting the new Comisky built.

It sounds like we have some good sources "in the know" that we can get the scoop from.  That reminds me, speaking of scoop, I have a friend who's half brother's ex wife's illigitamate orphan works as an ice cream vendor at the Cell.  Unfortunately (for him), he's a Wisconsin grad that got demoted by my friend who's a former intern in the front office... so he's unlikely to be cooperative in giving MU fans some inside info.

Travis is a White Sox fan, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I used to see him around campus wearing a Sox hat and I remember him mentioning it in an interview.

I hear Maurice Acker is going to get a shot to be bat boy later this summer.

If you truly care how Diener got invited to do this, I feel sorry for you.

But I like to throw handfuls...

TallTitan34

Hopefuly he threw better then fellow Sox fans Jerel McNeal and Barrack Obama.  :D

On the Score they were talking about how its amazing you can be an athletic freak and still look like a girl throwing a baseball.

The White Sox played "Ring Out Ahoya" and had the MU log on the jumbotron. Travis was clearly there as a representative of MU, not the Pacers.

Travis' fiance is from Chicago and they are getting married this summer. I was guessing it may have something to do with that.

Thanks gimp, I remember reading about your friend's brother the peanut seller in the paper, from what I understand he was caught tapping his foot in the mens restroom of the upper concourse.  Then he tossed his salty nuts down the aisle to all those unknowing patrons.

Diener is getting married and he was planning to be at the game for one of his bachelor parties.  The Pacers press guy came up with the idea and got it done with the White Sox.

The Pacers press guy sucks at his job then if they had a Marquette logo and no Pacers logo up.

So you, in your infinite wisdom, think it would have been a good idea to plaster the logo of a Division rival of the Bullls all over a Chicago stadium?  I guess you can't put a price on common sense.
