It's definately a great move for Wade.  Even more exposure than he already has.

Maybe Nike will encourage him to stop wearing those Indiana Adidas shorts  ;D

does than mean MU is gonna ditch converse in favor of the swoosh?

Nike owns Converse. This is bad for MU. We were the only (I think) team with Converse in D-1. If Wade had built the brand, that really would have been a cool selling point with recruits.

I think this is actually a better deal than it seems to some. Although Converse has really stepped up its' product offerings, it's basketball endorsement portfolio outside of Wade was truly mediocre.  Besides Wade, the other players wearing Converse in the NBA last year were Kirk Hinrich, Elton Brand, Udonis Haslem, Andre Miller, Kyle Korver, Acie Law, Maurice Evans, and Alando Tucker; not exactly a top-tier team. Also, if you look at Converse's current line of shoes/apparel, it has positioned itself more as a retro/throwback brand in terms of design, and Wade does not fit in that picture well.

Wade jumping over to Jordan Brand, though, I think is HUGE for a couple of reasons for Marquette. One, Marquette now shares the same apparel branding as UNC, Georgetown, and Cal.  When you walk into a Champs Sports or a Finish Line, what two schools apparel do you see most often than not no matter what city you are in?  UNC and Georgetown. Why?  Because the Jordan Brand sells big-time. By now having Wade affiliated with Nike's top brand, you are now going to see Marquette apparel EVERYWHERE in the country.  More $$ for MU.

Second, recruiting. Jordan Brand is big into the summer camps and the high school all-star games. Don't be surprised in the near future, with having one of the top 3-5 players in the NBA in their portfolio if Nike brings one of these camps or events to Milwaukee or Marquette's campus.  That's going to get more top tier players thinking of playing for Marquette.

Overall, I think this is a great fit for Marquette, and I think we're going to be very happy with Wade's decision to jump to Jordan Brand.
The General has taken on a new command.

From Don Walker's Twitter: "Marquette says its contract with Converse allows the school to opt out if D-Wade leaves Converse. Today, he did just that. Your move, MU."

From Darren Rovell's Twitter: "With Wade switch to Jordan, Marquette, his alma mater will follow"

"Marquette will transition to the Jordan Brand along with Wade," says Reggie Saunders, spokesperson for Jordan Brand. "Marquette is proud of their former athlete and should have the opportunity to maintain their relationship with him."

How long before Crean sees an opportunity to have Wade pose in some IU Jordan Brand gear? Gotta figure the Hoosiers will be the next school to make the switch.

Not for long.

Crean is such a jock sniffer that he'll convince IU to get out of that contract to follow DW.

He's powerful enough to get DW to wear the shorts, and change MU's nickname. TC is certainly powerful enough to get IU to change their existing contract!

It is huge. I didn't realize that we would "follow" DWade whereever he went, but the Jordan Brand with Nike is much better than Converse. I can't wait to get some blue and gold Jordans!

Bingo.

When recruits sign at IU, they don't say it's IU, IU, they say it's Crean, it's Crean. He's uber powerful. And Evil.

We should go with whomever gives us the most money.

Shouldn't we?

Isn't that what this is about?

Does this mean new jerseys...again?  If so, they need to come up with them soon.

For a guy who allegedly hates how often TC is inserted in threads around here you certainly are contributing more than your fair share.

Great point.

However, in my own defense, I'm only sarcastically responding to another poster's notion that TC will somehow get IU out of it's current Adidas contract.

I'm not inserting TC into a thread, or starting a new thread about TC.

Thanks.

I'm hopin' for the same uniforms, just change the Converse star to the Nike jumpman logo.  I wouldn't mind some new warmups, though...
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.
