MU gains 2009-'10 commitment
By Todd Rosiak of the Journal Sentinel
Apr. 1, 2009 7:54 p.m.

Coach Buzz Williams said last week that he was open to possibly adding one or more players to his five-man recruiting class for next season.

On Wednesday he did just that, gaining an oral commitment from Darius Johnson-Odom, a 6-foot-2 guard from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

Johnson-Odom, a left-handed combination guard, averaged 21.6 points, 5.2 rebounds 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game this past season for Hutchinson, which finished the season 20-12.

He also shot 47.9% from the floor, 38.8% from three-point range (69 for 178) and 77.0% from the free-throw line (191 for 248) en route to being named freshman of the year in the Jayhawk West Conference.

Johnson-Odom set a school record by scoring 46 points against Coffeyville on Dec. 5 at the Jayhawk Shootout.

At MU he'll be in the mix with senior returnees Maurice Acker and David Cubillan and newcomers Dwight Buycks and Junior Cadougan. Johnson-Odom will have three years of eligibility once he arrives at MU.

MU has no scholarships available at this point, meaning some sort of roster move will need to be worked out before he's able to sign with the Golden Eagles during the late signing period in two weeks.

Johnson-Odom is from Raleigh, N.C. He played at Wakefield High School, and also at The Patterson School in Patterson, N.C.

Check back later for more detail, as well as some comments from Johnson-Odom.
The General has taken on a new command.

Big Papi

Does that makes two left handers on next years roster?

Three I believe. Maymon and Roseboro are lefties?

Correct they're both left-handed shooters.

The Lens

Question for those with premium membership on scout.  I'm sure there was a bunch of talk about him for the past few months. Any insight?  What were people saying throughout his season?  As us out of the know talked of Darius Smith & Dashonte Reilly, what was the banter about DJO for those of you in the know?

The biggest thing of late on the premium board is Maymon is fully qualified.  Of course this has also been posted on at least 5 other boards as well so I'm not sure how premium it is.

Under the radar, but there have been some really nice things said about him from highly regarded sources tonight.
