UConn apparently does receive a lot of money from it's highly funded men's basketball team.  Interesting to get the actual numbers.  I am sure that Kentucky will expect similar profits from their high-paid coach's program.

Does anyone know the revenue the men's team at MU gets for the school?  Or at least an estimate?

BrewCity83

No, but you can bet that this past year was quite a bit better than the previous with the increased attendance, Big East's NCAA winnings, and lower head coach's salary.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

TJ

Makes his $1.6 million salary not look so bad, considering they basketball program still contributed $6M to the rest of the budget after paying his salary.

The Calipari salary also should take some heat off of Calhoun.

New Era Warriors

Does anyone know what Marquette's profit was for this year? How about the rest of the Big East teams?

Private Universities are not required to report such things.  Any claim to know would be dubious at best.

Chicago_inferiority_complexes

Whatever it was, I'm sure they got it directly out of the general academic expenditures compiled from student tuition.

I think any of these claims, but either type of school, are dubious.  I really doubt that all expenses are categorized consistently across the board.  Furthermore, it doesn't account for the ancillary benefits of athletic programs - increased giving and freshman applications for example.

Compare MU to Uconn ....

Same conference TV contract.  Similar local TV markets suggest similar revenues off local TV broadcasts.  I'm guessing MU either outdrew unconn or had similar attendance because the BC is one of the larger CBB stadiums.

That leaves winnings from tourneys, BET and NCAA.  Unconn scored more here but I'm guessing this means they received hundreds of thousands more than MU, not millions.  Ditto merchandising.  I'll guess unconn makes more than MU because unconn has two national championships in the last 10 years.  Again not millions more but hundreds of thousands more.

So, if unconn had $14 million in revenues, MU had $12 to $12.5 million

What's wrong with this analysis?
