WISHFUL THINKING
« on: March 31, 2009, 10:27:07 PM »
When has MU ever gotten a top recruit due to a coaching change?  I pray we get another primetime player but its probably not going to happen.  Speculation is not worth the bytes over the net.  Sorry but its true.  If someone can name me one top player that has come to MU due to a coaching change, I will stand corrected.

If the question is has anyone even gotten out of a LOI and then gone to MU, the answer is I believe is no.  However, I believe this is a really new phenomenon, as in less than 5 years old.  So, it's new and lots of schools have never gotten someone do to a change as it hasn't happened that much.  Maybe someone else can enlighten on the history of getting out of a LOI.

Don't laugh ... but Marcus Jackson was considered a very good recruit at one time, and he landed at Marquette after Georgia, to which he had initially committed, fired Harrick.

That's fine... I'll take a Marcus Jackson... I am just being negative and doubtful.  I just think these transfers are doubtful.  I would rather talk about other recruits that are not committed and that Buzz has been working on.

You never know what can happen.  We had some top recruits in our finals and it's only a matter of time before we nab one I think.

In previous years we were also played a pretty large role in the coaching rumors/speculation which I'm sure didn't help our chances with a lot of recruits who had already been burned once by a coaching change. I think we'll have a much better chance in the future with a coach who won't be rumored to be leaving every other day.

If Marcus Jackson qualifies than Dwight Bucks and Jimmy Butler also qualify.  They initially signed elsewhere, went to Juco and are now at MU.

I thought you meant backed out of a LOI and came straight to MU with no stop in between.

Guess the title of the post says it all...I can't remember any big name transferring here, although Robert Jackson sure helped us out A LOT in '03...maybe that wasn't from a coaching change, though.
 Doesn't mean it won't or can't happen.

Walter Downing transferred from DePaul.  Again, not from a coaching change.  He was a HUGE name at the time.

Don't be so quick to say no we can't.  We are probably not in the running for any of the Memphis, Kentucky recruits but there is a lot of changes going on and we could be getting a player from another program.

There is one player in particular to keep an eye on and one small chance that if things fall perfectly in place could lead to a big time recruit albeit the chances are very very small.

Thames asked out of Washington State when Tony went to Virginia.  I believe we were very involved with him and were in his top 3 or 4.  I believe he is a combo guard with a good outside shot that would fit in very well.

The other is who does Memphis hire.  One name being thrown out there and he is probably 5th or 6th on the list is Leonard Hamilton.  The chances are very slim but if it does come to that, Snaer could ask out and then you never know.
