Agreed.  The biggest disparity in first round opponents for an at large team is between 4 and 5.  If you are a 5, you're generally playing a low major conference champ with geographical protection.  If you're a 5, you're playing an at-large team from a big conference where the 4 from your bracket has the geogrphical protection.  It is really helpful if you can get a top 4 seed.
