I am curious if anyone knows how often a highly rated recruit has Marquette in his top few schools?

For example, 5-star shooting guard Michael Snaer had us in his final 3.  Highly recruited DeShonte Riley (a top 10 center but not sure exactly on the stars) had us in his top 2.

I think it says something about Buzz and the program that these types of guys are highly considering MU.  It is a time to come in and get some serious PT, but still a good thing I think.

Have we had any other 5 stars or big time targets put MU in his final schools lately?  And are there any legit ones on the horizon?  All we need is one with the class that we have next year...

You could say the same thing about some of the recruits Crean went after....very highly ranked and had us in the "top 5 or final 3" but went elsewhere.

TVDirector

ok, folks... so who is next?
Buzz is seemingly still recruiting for 09...
no Riley... no Wilson...
no big guy...

are we really looking at adding one now?

obviously, a new thread of sign so and so and so and so transfers and so on and so forth is, well, forthcoming.

We need another point guard in my opinion.  We have a senior in Acker who is a decent backup and a rookie who will run the show next year in the Big East.  We need more than that.

Either Snear, Riley and Wilson would have been nice.  Now I guess he goes after SG Darius Smith, who is blowing up and now has the real big schools after him now.

If Smith goes elsewhere, bag for scholarship for 2010, don't waste on any more bigman projects, Buzz has enough of them.

As for the actual scholarship opening, just look who has not stepped on the court for the past ten games or so, and Buzz put in Otule, not him.  Thats how bad it is.

Glenn Bryant from Oak Hill is another option from what I see, and Doron Lamb for 2010-2011 has us in his list, but the likelihood of that is very little I'm sure.  Darius Smith seems like a nice get though.

Agree. PG is a priority escpecially looking at how this last 10 days have truned out for us.

It would be nice to get some data points when tops recruits have us in theor top 2 - 3 schools and go elsewhere as to why they really chose elsewhere - it would be a great learning experience that may help us land the 5 stars int he future.  I wonder if there is any way to assemble such data.

Go Marquette!!

You're never really going to get that kind of information.  When they commit, recruits just give the standard response....felt comfortable with the coaches, like the offensive scheme, school looks nice, teammates are great, fan support is great, close to home etc.

A lot of the time that's true, and others it's just a cover why they really went there(AAU coach pushed me there, wanted to play for a black coach, it's a Nike school etc).

You're right - but what an insight that would give if possible!  Thanks, BMA

Must have Jamil Wilson in mind.

Not really or at least not all of it.  I was meaning them as individual things, not a group of reasons for one player.

In fact, for two of the three, I was actually thinking of Leonard Hamilton at FSU and the Michael Snaer situation.  Snaer's recruiting was handled by his AAU coach, Elvert "Kool Aid" Perry.  For years, Perry has made a point of pushing his players towards black coaches even if that may not be the best situation for the kid or where the kid really wants to go.  He believes it is of utmost importance that his black players go play for black coaches in order to show the powers that be that black coaches can do well, so that more black coaches get head coaching jobs.

Not saying Jamil doesn't fit some of those things, but he's not really who I had in mind.

Problem for Wilson is that Ernie Kent is on the hot seat, that would really suck for him if Kent decided to go elsewhere. I know people said Hamilton was on the hot seat at the beginning of the year, but he is having a nice year this year that will save him for a bit.

Oregon is very young and graduates no one of consequence so you gotta think Kent gets another season.

Another point guard would be fine, but the problem is that it'll be very difficult to get a quality point guard to commit in the same class as Junior Cadougan. You're essentially asking a kid to come in and chance being a backup for four years. Sometimes you can get away with that at places like Duke, UNC, UCLA, etc.
Not so much at Marquette.

Big Papi

We need a combo guard.  Buycks can fill in at the point guard position if need be and we would be fine as I believe he has played point this year for his team.  Smith would be ideal but it doesn't look promising.  I think we are on a few more guards though.

I say we get a 4 star player or better or bank it if we have one.  Since we don't have a scolarship, we should be very selective :)
