This Board is Just Comical Sometimes
« on: February 06, 2009, 09:30:16 PM »
I swear, random posters come out of the effin' wood works only after losses, but hey it's free country and internets.  To combine at least 19 threads into one

~DJ took too many 3's
~Mo has been ice cold this year, has he hit a 3 ball in the BE season yet?
~'Zar missed a bunny
~Wes missed a handful of open shots including a game winner
~'Rel committed an idiotic 5th foul reaching inside 1 minute
~Buzz had an off night IMO
~FT's were bad, but the idea that Buzz should use use part of his set amount of practice time on them is ridiculous.  Players should be practicing them outside of practice

And to those DJ haters, where you when he locked down Vaughn, Reynolds, Curry, and hit the game winner against NC State????

No kidding. I defend Buzz's decision to not practice free throws. When you get the TEAM together, you should be practicing things that make the TEAM better.

If anyone can explain to me how shooting free throws has anything to do with a TEAM effort, rather than an INDIVIDUAL shooting free throws, be my guest.

Perfect storm of everything going wrong. This won't happen again. I expect the team to be ready for VillaNoFun. No way they shoot that bad again. GO MARQUETTE!!!

I haven't seen this much whining on this board since Steve Cottingham ruined the program by hiring Buzz as our head coach.

+1 to Milwarrior...to lose, we had to have EVERY phase of the game go wrong, and it did.  No way that happens Tuesday.  We'll be ready for 'Nova now.

Not to make excuses, but I was wondering how hot was it in Tampa. In some of the close up shots the guys were really sweating (Jerel, Dwight and Wesley). Just wonder if the warm temperatures took some of the energy out of the guys. The USF guys seemed not as "sweaty" to me and not as affected by the warm temperature. Just wondering.

yeah that's it, the heat got us!

Hey, it was a clunker and it's over. Forward!  The NC team was 20-7 and was not sure it would even be invited to the tourney.

Every basketball team at every level has clunkers.  Good teams learn from them and move on.  Lesser teams let it get to them and string together a few losses.  Let's hope we are the former.

Remember the Cincy game?? Well, this was the exact opposite of that. It sucks, but it happens.

We gave Nova a break by losing this one, now MU has to take care of Nova and things should be fine.

players learn from losses. and perhaps it's better they didn't have the added pressure of "the streak" going into the back 1/2 of big east play. now they can really have short memories when it comes to each game and play with a renewed chip on their shoulder.

it would be nice to have Dayton, Tenn, and/or USF to do over again, but the reality is, I'd rather go through the growing pains here in February than on the first Thursday-Sunday stretch of the NCAAs (Duke's last 2 years is a good, recent example of what I mean).

Our guys will be hungry on Tuesday. Road wins are hard to come by in the Big East for teams 1-18. Let's FIRE UP MARQUETTE!

Oops!    We stunk up the joint last night.   Our first genuine clunker of the year.   The horror!    Losing a conference road game!   To go 20 and frickin 3 for the year.   Cancel the rest of the year.    Did anyone actually expect us to go undefeated in conference?     Sheesh.

Every good/great team is bound to lose a game they should have won...it happens every season. Would I have picked that game to be USF? Probably not. The point is, we're 20-3 and 9-1 in the conference. Just because we had one bad game on the road doesn't mean that the wheels are falling off. Remember, this is the same team that battled back to defeat Providence on the road, beat Notre Dame in South Bend, and followed that up with a gutsy performance at home against Georgetown. What a difference a week makes.

I don't think many people would have predicted MU being 9-1 and tied for 2nd in the conference after 10 BEAST games. They're an experienced bunch and they will bounce back from this loss. DJ has been stellar all season...we've always known his limitations and they were never more clear than last night's game. He'll bounce back as well. The free throws were a killer, but yet we're still one of the best FT shooting teams in the BEAST.

They played their worst ball of the season and still had a chance to win in the end. I'd hate to be Villanova right now.

Not a factor at all. Weather has been cool to cold here, building's temp wasn't high at all.

Here's the frustration.  We should have won.  Absolutely if someone had asked us before the season began whether we'd be 9-1 in conference and 20-3 overall, would we believe it?  We'd all be lying if we said we did.  But 24 hours ago, if someone said we can be 10-0 in conference and 21-2 overall, we would would have said, "damn straight we will be" (most of us).
Looking ahead 24 hours ago (we can do that as fans, remember?), my thoughts were, "we are going to lose some games in the BEast,  but not this one."  We have the murderous stretch coming up to end the regular season.  I figured of those five, if we could win at least two, we'd be in great shape - PROVIDED we don't lose the ones we're "supposed" to win.  Now, we may have to pull off at least three of those final five.  Not impossible, by any means.  But it sure would have been nice to win last night.

not to draw a parallel between the two, but the '77 team lost 5 home games (I was at every painful one) and 2 on the road- we were the 'losingest' team to ever win the tourney.  We even lost to a horrible Detroit team coached by the worst bball coach (worse than Dukiet) in history!

life goes on....

I was there also, and heard the boos directed at Al and the team.

That Detroit team, however, was not horrible. Loud coach, though.

How many "Oh Baby" did that certain Detriot coach yell out?

(The coach was Dick Vitale if you're too lazy to goggle it)

In all seriousness, thanks for this thread. I purposely avoided MUScoop until just now, and I'm glad to read all the whining in one convenient place.

We lost. It's a wake-up call. Get over it. Buzz and company sucked it up big time last night, but the team's still way better than anybody predicted they would be.
