Vote for AL!!
« on: February 04, 2009, 09:36:52 PM »
Al made the Wisconsin Mt. Rushmore of sports on sportscenter.  Top 5 states will be revealed on sportscenter.  Also interesting to note that nobody associated to UW@Madison made the list.  I hope they reveal the winner by using a tournament-style elimination.

Wisconsin won't come close. Illinois has a much better line-up.

Actually I change that. Aaron > Banks; you could argue Favre and Payton; Lombardi and McGuire and were both better coaches than Ditka (I know you can't directly compare McGuire and Ditka but you understand); obviously Jordan was one of the best ever but I don't think that's enough to make up that list. Illinois' line-up is definitely NOT much better than Wisconsin's.

so glad to see Al at least made the final WI cut. i was really worried they'd put up Barry Alvarez or Bonnie Blair or someone undeserving compared to McGuire.

I can't believe someone actually wanted Dick Bennett over Al...I guess you can't spell Badgers without the word Bad.  ::)

No. Banks > Aaron. Ernie played his career in Chicago. Aaron did not. Typical Wisconsin hanging their hat on a half-truth.

Jordan easily is more than Al and whatever needs to be made up from Ditka. Payton >>> Favre and I am a Packers fan.

To recap position to position:
1. Jordan is 1.5 times better than anyone from the Wisconsin.
2. Payton was a much better football player than Favre.
3. Banks > Hank Aaron due to the fact that Aaron played in Atlanta. There are better players than EB to put on here. Mordecai and Fergie for me, but Banks got everyone's attention.
4. Ditka was a poor choice. Bobby Hull would have been a better choice.

Doesn't Favre play in New York?

Probably would've been best to include George Halas rather than Ditka in Illinois' list.

Aaron is also in Georgia and Alabama's list.

As someone from Illinois, Wisconsin's list isn't too shabby.

Shouldn't Jordan be in DC then too? And Ditka in New Orleans?

Also, Jordan is not 1.5x Lombardi. Sorry. Just isn't.
But I like to throw handfuls...

George Halas is a much better choice than Ditka... who all remember not being even the greatest coach of his generation... He got fired, and traded the Saint's draft for Ricky Williams.

Aaron would probably say that he was a Milwaukee Brave, not an Atlanta Brave

Favre has played ONE year in New York... if we take him off the list, we would have to remove Joe Montana from Cali's list, and Joe Namath from New Yorks.

you can't be serious... this is where the person will be remembered being from.

also, Bart Starr was a better QB than anyone... statistically speaking.

Aaron played 14 years for Milwaukee hitting over 400 HR and knocking in 1400 runs.  Anyone saying Banks > Aaron is a cubs homer.  There is no other reason to make such a silly statement.
Also I'd say I was embarrassed that Ditka is on the list, but I didn't vote so oh well.  Halas, Hull, much better choices.  Possibly Frank Thomas or even Jerry Reinsdorf, if you want to go the owner route.

They seem to give credit to just about any state a sports personality showed up in; Hank Aaron is in 3 states alone.  Illinois shares Jordan with North Carolina in ESPN's list, so I think it's not as much of a concern of which state they had the most impact in as it is which 4 figures are the biggest in that state's history.

I just feel bad for the states that have to start off their list with someone like Carlos Boozer.

My mistake, I didn't see multiple states were taking people, seems kinda lame.

Wisconsin is a good lineup then, probably better than Illinois because of the terrible Ditka choice.

Yeah, Mississippi has both Walter Payton and Brett Favre.

Rhode Island boasts Rocco Baldelli....ouch.
