You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

A few big namers DJ has a better A/T than:

Darren Collison, UCLA
Sherron Collins, Kansas
Jonny Flynn, Syracuse
Jeremy Pargo, Gonzaga
Tyrese Rice, BC
Daniel Hackett, USC

Also averages more steals than:

Flynn, Levance Fields, Rice, Pargo, Collison, Collins, Hackett

I cannot remember a MU starting guard that averaged a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.  Miller and Diener came close, but not a 3:1

You also got to take into consideration that guys like collison a nd flynn have many more finishers down low to help with their assist total.  How many more would DJ have if we had Oluanaka or somebody down low to finish.

sgurgs

more impressive, he's got a 3.6:1 in big east play. smaller sample set, but tougher competition.

DJ is a major reason for the success of Rel, Wes, and Zar this year. As stated above if he had a post player that could score or defend his numbers would explode. He is a STUD in his own way on offense and defense. MVP for MU to date, he is the engine that makes the other 4 wheels go.

Agree with everything but the first half of the last sentence. McNeal has to be the MVP this year to date.

+1. I'd probably put Lazar at #2 as well. Nonetheless, I'm tired of people ripping on DJ. Not only is he a top-tier PG with a stellar a/to, but he's also averaging nearly 4 boards/game.

It is so hard to name a MVP - the big 4 are so dependent on one another.  If either of them are out, we lose.

We have had this debate before and I will say the same thing now that I said then.

Jerel is the best player on the team but, I believe, Dominic is the most important player on the team.

We need Dominic to play well, i.e. run the offense, good D, assists, low turnovers, breakdown the D with penetration, to be successful.  IMO how Dom goes so goes MU.

Side note, I am glad Bilas said that he thought Dom was a better on the ball defender than McNeal.  I sometimes think DJ doesn't get enough recognition for his D and tends to be overshadowed by McNeal.  McNeal is better at getting into passing lanes but Dom is better on the ball.
