Of course getting to the Sweet 16 is going to be hard as hell no matter what seed we get without DJ now. However, it will be near impossible to get there if we end up with an 8/9 seed. That's because we'll most likely have to face UNC in the 2nd round if we win our first round game. It looks like the BE could get three #1 seeds so that's why we would get UNC in our bracket. I don't want to get too far ahead of things here, but this game on Wednesday is a must win situation if we don't want to fall down to that 8/9 seed line. We got to get a win under our belts.

Most likely scenario is that we get bumped up or down to the 7-10 game.  The Big East will surely have a 4-5 seed so we will get re-seeded.
Captain, We need more sweatervests!  TheManInGold has been blinded by the light (off the technicolor sweatervest)

If we lose the first game in the BE Tourney, I fear Doris is right. Otherwise, we should be okay. However, a 7 seed is possible based on how seriously the committee considers injured players. Remember two years ago when we deserved at least a 6 seed? Jerel's absence resulted in an 8 seed and a much deserved ouster in the first round. I love this team, but I believe we need at least a great showing against Nova to have a decent shot in the tourney. Too pessimistic? Possibly. But don't ever accuse me of rooting against this team. My whole MU career (at last in attendance) has been correlated with this senior class. Go Marquette! My brain is saying no, but my heart is saying yes.

Someone already said it: More so than any previous year we are at the mercy of the selection committee. In my eyes we could be anywhere from a 6 seed to a 10 seed...

The simple fact is, we have not won a game since James got hurt. Now, looking at the teams involved, etc., it is not quite that simple, but the question is, will the committee take the simple look at it, or do  their proper due diligence? My answer is it will depend largely on what happens tomorrow. If Mu loses, I think they will get hammered by the committee, and truth be told, it will probably be warranted. They need a win to be secure in a 7 seed. Two would be even better, and could potentially get them a 6 seed. If they can do that, there is much more reason for optimism. The 1 and 2 seeds are very easy to identify this year. Trying to separate the 3's, 4's, and 5's is significantly more difficult.

kinda depressing to think that a team ranked 21st would be considered somewhere between the 28th and 44th seed in the NCAA's if placed 7 through 11.
even with Dom out, name 43 or even 27 better teams...

sure, it don't seem to work that way-- oh well.

no wins in the BET = 7 seed... maybe 8 if its a big loss.

1 win in the BET = 6 seed

2 wins in the BET 4 or 5 seed

Win the BET and we are a 3 or a 4

Actually, that's exactly how it works..at least its supposed to (with adjustments to avoid conference matchups, etc). Going into tomorrow I guess I'm still somewhat optimistic. The other day I was able to come up with 23 teams, being somewhat generous to a couple of them. With a win tomorrow they should be able to stay there, a loss, and that loss could increase to >27 pretty easily.

The biggest strike against MU is really the timing of the injury, as they have not really had any time to adjust to life w/o James, nor have they had much opportunity to prove they can play without him. New season starts now, and they have to do so, or the 8-10 seed they get will probably be what they deserve.

I'm praying for no worse than a 7 seed, in which case we could get someone like Memphis second round.  Am I the only guy that is utterly disgusted by the notion that Memphis is getting #1 votes in the polls?  Calipari love + ridiculously weak conference schedule = the notion that they MUST be a good team.  I have a feeling (key word: feeling) that out of all the 1 and 2 seed, Memphis is easily our best match up.
