Anyone else curious about how Cooby messed up within 20 seconds of being on the court??  I couldn't really tell what he did/didn't do during his token appearance.

Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

I don't think he really did anything to mess up per se when he was out there; seemed to me because of the timing of when he got in (about 4:20 left), Buzz put him in to get James a little more extended rest going into the under 4 timeout for the final 4 minutes of the game.
The General has taken on a new command.

Agree, General.  The team suffers a serious drop-off whenever any of the main three guards sit, so Buzz has decided that he is only going to spot-replace them when they are in foul trouble or for an extra minute or two when we are close to TV timeouts.  It also appears that Butler is the main guy off the bench to replace McNeal-Matthews-Hayward, so that leaves little time for Cubillan since Acker is the primary to replace James.  Since we are not the kind of team that will generally roll over our opposition, it appears that Cubillan minutes will be tough to come by this year.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Big Papi

It seems like Cube and Fulce's minutes will only really come when we are in foul trouble at least over the first half of the conference season.  Otule might play some additional minutes when matchups dictate that we need an extra big.

Buzz did mention that there is a huge benefit when someone can sit for a full 5 minutes so I would expect the big 4 to play a majority of the minutes and to get a blow 1 or 2 minutes before a tv timeout, once each half.

I keep thinking about Carlton Christian and Coobie.

Suddenly, CC wasn't playing and we all wondered why.  Later, it came out that CC had made his intentions to leave the team, so Crean basically stopped playing him.

Clearly, Coobie had something to offer in the past, at least on defense .. sure, his ability to score has left the building, but there are opportunities to switch out guys for defensive reasons.

I tend to believe something besides performance is going on here...  I'm not sure Coobie is above Frozena getting off the bench at this point.

I imagine Cooby is gone at the end of the year -- either because it is already set that way, or because he doesn't want to ride the pine for another year. Might this be the perfect segue into a over-recruiting controversy?  ;)

Tough to transfer going into your senior year. Doubt if any school is going to give him a scholarship if he has to sit around a year just to play one season.

Not if he goes home to play on the national team...

Just a thought.

Acker is getting Coobies minutes at the point becuase he is better than coobie as a point.  Butler is getting coobies minutes in relief of Jerel and Wes because he is better than coobie.  it is really pretty simple this is not tee-ball.

Agree with Mr. Hayward.

Last years first sub was Fitzgerald, who subbed more in the front court than the backcourt leaving Coobie plenty of time at the 2.  Butler is weighted more toward the backcourt and eats up what used to be Coobie's minutes.  Given the incoming class, Buzz likes tall, rangy athletes and that is not Coobie.   Coobie is a good fit for certain teams and not others.  Plus, his shoulder surgery has taken away the only thing that would make him an asset to the team.....shoot the 3.

Coobie is a fun player to watch but will not be missed if he decides to leave and we can replace him with a top notch recruit who brings more to the table.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

I think Cooby's shooting isn't up to snuff.  If someone is giving you an open shot, you have to hit it period.  Since his shoulder injuries, Cooby hasn't hit anything.  I still believe Cooby is an important element of the team.  Especially next year when the 3 Amigos are gone and we need guards with BEAST experience.  I don't see him transfering.  Just that minutes will be tough this year especially if he can't hit an open shot.
