OT: Lebron's Sitcom...anyone intrigued?

Quote
As reported in the current issue of ESPN The Magazine, the Cavaliers superstar has partnered with O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson and ABC for a one-hour drama based on James' experiences as a high school hoops phenom. The series, described as "Friday Night Lights-meets-Entourage," will follow an inner-city 15 year-old prep star who is transplanted to a small town school and forced to come of age while dealing with media pressure, unscrupulous moneymen and the jealousy of his peers.

The pilot script is expected in the coming weeks and, if the network approves, production on the pilot could begin in the spring for a fall '09 premiere. CubeVision and James's newly formed entertainment entity Spring Hill Productions will oversee for the network, while James and Cube will serve as co-creators and executive producers.

"It's a grounded character study of teenage life in small town America, but it's also an exploration of the American Dream and the wish-fulfillment aspect of what his life has become," said Matt Alvarez, President of CubeVision, who pitched the concept and is also an executive producer on the show. "As a teenager, LeBron was dubbed as one of the great ones. Dropping an album as a kid with NWA, Cube could relate to that. They both know what it's like to have success at a young age, and dealing with everything that comes with those expectations."

When I first heard he was making a sitcom I chuckled to myself but after reading the description I think it might have a chance.  Lebron is a hot commodity right now and if its more entourage than Friday Night Lights it could have a chance...I wish it were on one of the premiums (hbo or showtime) rather than ABC so it would have more creative freedom

I love it when these athletes think they can expand into other fields.
I have four words fior LeBron: Shaquille O'Neal in "Kazaam."

there's always a 'promoter' that manages to get the athelete's ear, and the desire for investment plagues the uninitiated.  Typically, physicians are the poor investors, but atheletes get much more notice.  There are a few success stories (Bart Starr Lincoln-Mercury stores in Alabama, and so on) but many more horror stories (Austin Carr BMW in Cleveland sticks in my mind).  It all depends on the operator and the location.  I wonder how long Brett Favre's Steak house will operate in Green Bay?

I guess with all the trash-reality shows currently enjoying popularity, there is always room for more crap.

I have no use for Labron.  If he wants to be a "global icon" he should put more effort into winning championships like Jordan (or Wade ;)) and less time talking about playing for other teams, playing in other countries, telling Barkley to shut up, or trying to act.  He carries an awfully big ego for someone who hasn't won a championship, and we all saw who the true leader and best player was on the Olympic team this summer.  Maybe I'm a bit biased though...

+1. Lebron telling Barkley to shut up was one of the stupidest things I have seen come out of the NBA in a while.
