This has been mentioned previously, but after watching the game i can't help but comment on how bad mcneal's decision making on the fast break is.  It's simply awful and incredibly frustrating to witness. And don't tell me that we can live with it  because its his "mentality" to be aggressive. It's a simple fundamental that any D1 player should be able to execute on a consistent basis.  I don't care how many points he scores for us, if he can't even execute a 2 on 1 or even a 3-1 fast break, then that is just sad. Hopefully he'll realize that making a simple bounce pass to a wide open teamate is easier and more effective than trying to bowl over someone. C'mon Jerel.

on another note.. how good is dominic james. Hopefully he can get it going heading into BE play.

The difference is...while that 4th grader will move on to the 5th grade, Jerel will be moving on to the NBA. He played a great game today as well. I have nothing to complain about after a win like tonight.

We couldn't have won without Jerel carrying the team for a good chunk of the first half.  Plus, if you're going to talk about McNeal's decison making, I'm not too keen on the boneheaded charges and the forced shots after holding the ball for an eternity that Hayward is known for.  And not to keen on James bricking threes. Or Matthews not showing up at times. Bottom line is I'll take the positives of all of them.

its not that the other players aren't prone to making bad decisions, but you don't see them blowing fast breaks. McNeal is consistently making bad decisions on the fast break, refusing to pass to the open man. Its simply unacceptable, now matter much you excel in other parts of the game. Even in today's game, he made at least two offensive fouls on fast breaks that should have resulted in points. It could have cost mu the game if james hadn't bailed them out with his clutch threes.

Jerel is a great player, but you can't just live with these kind of mistakes. Its simple fundamentals, and buzz needs to address this to jerel, because he'll be an even better player if he had decent court awareness.

Do you think this issue has been magnified by the fact that the announcing crew mentioned it about 25 times?

On the fast break, when the ball goes to Jerel it goes into a black hole.  He never gives it back, or rarely does.  It is frustrating, so were some of his hoisted 3-pointers late in the game.  Dumb shots.  We got lucky that NC State couldn't hit either and the game remained tied during that period.

Back to the fast break....Jerel is an incredible athlete and makes some layups that defy explanation.  The problem I have is on the 2 on 1's or the 3 on 2 break aways when the return pass means a bucket 9 times out of 10, but that pass is not made by him.  He wants to always finish.

Frustrating indeed.

Actually, Jerel does give it up on the break.  Unfortunately its for alley opps which don't work.
