While some are focused on FT % (70.5% this season vs. 70.6% last year), maybe we should be a bit more concerned about our trey shooting percent--especially with such a small team (read: we are about to see a bunch of zone).

>> Nationally, with the line moving out, 3PT% has dropped from 35.02% to 33.8%--2.9% Point drop or a 8% decrease in relative terms.
>> Marquette  has dropped from 35.29% to 31.43%--a 3.9% point drop or 11% decrease.
>> Jerel and DJ are the only two who have improved--Jerel significantly from 30.4% to 37.2%.
>> Lazar (45.1% to 24.0%!) and Mo (42.6% to 33.3%) have seen a major tail off.

I am sure that there will be games where making some FT's will make a difference which is the case with every team (DJ), but our precipitous drop in trey % can be devastating in the BE and against Tenn upcoming.  The one major difference this year to help offset this is that we are getting to the FT line at a top 10 rate (7th before yesterday)--which is also critical as if we aren't getting points from outside at least we are from the line.

Encouraging to me is I think in most of our games (like Lazar yesterday) we are getting good looks from outside.  And, what's with DJ improving from threeland but then he cannot make a FT?  (If DJ can nail his FT's with the way he is distributing the ball and playing D, he would be in AA territory.)  Mo and Lazar are just too good shooters not to start torching the twine.  My guess is we will start to see this stat turn around.

Damn, move over Henry Sugar.  There's a new stat sheriff in town.

great case for the importance of taking the right 3s. buzz has been emphasizing "getting a piece of the paint" before we take one since the oven was pre-heating for cupcake season. and it seems he's right.

you'd have to think that lazar, mo, coobie and DJ will all see their 3 pt accuracy increase when they catch with shoulders squared after a kick-out.

the really brutal plays are the ones where we come down and jack one up after a single pass to the wing.
