For those of you who are no longer in school, just remember today is Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This of course means that you, unlike the Marquette student body, are awake and working.

Not true.

I pass through campus via Wisconsin Ave every morning and this AM there were more kids up walking around then I had ever seen so far this year. It may be because Finals are this.

I would rather be at work than studying/taking finals. Although next week, i would rather be a student again.

For those of you who are no longer in school, just remember today is Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This of course means that you, unlike the Marquette student body, are awake and working.

Well if you'd like, I can go to work for you and you can do all of the work I don't have.  Here's the list of these things you would get to do this week because being a student is no work.

1.  Stay up until 3am working on various assignments.  These include

       a.  12-15 page International Law paper

       b.  12 page International Security paper

       c.  10-12 page Post-Colonial Literature paper

       d.  10-12 page Econ statistical paper

2.  Wake up every day this week at 6:30am to be to work by 7:30am (put in a ~22 hour week on top of academic obligations)

3.  Find time to study for 4 two-hour finals interspersed throughout the week.


Have fun!  I'll take whatever your week looks like.

Hey don't get me wrong, I was not belittling the requirements of a student.  I was simply stating that I would rather be somewhere other than my desk.  Could be a result of three straight nights of no sleep due to a 17month old's battle with croup.

And in regards to your offer...
I would not enjoy trading places, as I already had my fair share of papers, exams, etc.  But I do miss the feeling that came right after all that crap was completed. I haven't experienced that yet in the workforce because it doesn't seem like you ever leave previous projects/work behind.

That I can definitely agree with.  Few things compare to that joyful prance over to Sweeney's to sell back my books after that last test is done.  Stress done, beer money in hand, gotta love it.

I think the day off for All Saints Day was moved to be an extra one at mid-term break.  I don't remember getting this one off, though.

I also seem to remember rumors of them moving spring break to wrap around St Patty's Day, in order to curtail similar shenanigans. Did that ever happen?

Not sure if it was intentional, but St. Pat's was during spring break my senior year ('06). We celebrated with mojitos in the Dominican Republic.

I've been watching my wife and 2 year old son have a puking contest all day, except when I was out doing the grocery shopping for the next three weeks, along with writing the bills and getting my daughter to and from school.   All of this on a day I took a vacation day from work because my wife cannot function when she has a flu bug.  Man, I miss finals week.

Yeah, dude, much like Ash Wednesday and All Saints' Day, this is just another day during which you gotta fit in mass somewhere in addition to whatever else ya gotta do that day. 

But of course God has to go and make the most recent Ash Wednesday a day off from school!

I think it is intentional. In '07, St. Patty's day was on the last saturday of spring break. Leaving Acapulco in the morning and coming back to a snowy MKE that evening for green beer and jamo shots was a great way to end a week of drinking and sun.

It was Toumanoff for me in the Spring of '05.  Definitely spent as much time as I could in his office trying to get hints at how to make it better before the final hand-in.
