Media updates

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (NY Warrior)

Its media update time........Canada's National Post offers a glimpse (http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=764551) into the difficult circumstances that MU recruit Junior Cadougan escaped when his mother decided to send him to the United States to complete his high school education. Count your blessings, wow.

Also, the curious adventures of Trevor Mbakwe continue.  The former Warrior is presently enrolled at Miami-Dade Community College (http://blogs.jsonline.com/muhoops/archive/2008/09/02/mbakwe-attending-miami-dade.aspx).  Although Mbakwe sparked the second greatest thread in MUScoop history (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=5048.0), (this thread (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=2967.0) is the greatest), we're just not sure what to say about the Mbakwe situation.  Probably best to leave it alone, or talk about it here on MUScoop (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=9844.0).  Still, best of luck to Trevor.

John Pudner's triumphant entry into the brave world of publishing continues to draw attention.  Today, the Journal-Sentinel's Bob Wolfley (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=790306) takes the time to offer a synopsis of the new book, “Ultimate Hoops Guide: Marquette University.”   Good stuff; buy the book here (http://campuslife.collegeprowler.com/basketball.asp).   In related news, two of the three entries from Wolfley's column were covered initially (http://deadspin.com/5044309/ucf-conference-call-takes-a-detour-through-phone-sex-line) in the blogosphere (http://www.crackedsidewalks.com/2008/08/marquettes-greatest-100-update-patch.html).  Just sayin'.

Also, if you're a Marquette student, the MU hoops team is hosting walk-on tryouts (http://gomarquette.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/090208aaa.html).  Make sure you have proof of insurance if you want to be the next Tommy Brice (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/tommy_brice) or Robert Frozena (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/robert_frozena), or even the incomparable Ben Peavy (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/ben_peavy). If you're 6'8"+, that probably helps too.

Finally, the pre-season Rivals Marquette Team Report (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=teamreports-2008-ncaab-maf&prov=sportsxchange&type=team_report) is up.  It's always just nice to read extra information about Marquette -- this one is essentially recaps the program from April 1 until now.  Of course, there are just a couple  inaccuracies in their report.  See if you can find them all, or just check here for the answer key (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=9849.msg86419#msg86419).

**Thanks to Henry Sugar for his contributions to this post.
**Edit: Maybe we should have read the Rivals report more thoroughly.  :)

Thanks for the updates NY - the article on Cadougan was well done.   Reminds me that many of the hoops players we sit here and critique had to work very just to GET to a school like Marquette.

Sure we've all had our own challenges in life, but the starting point isn't exactly equal.

On another note...that Rivals report is horrible.  Several typos, and their facts are just plain wrong.  Did they actually pay someone for this stuff???

"Maurice Acker eligible after sitting out last season as a transfer"

"Adding signees such as 6-foot-11 Chris Otule, 6-foot-7 Joseph Fulce, 6-foot-4 Nick Williams and 6-foot-3 Tyshawn Taylor will provide an influx of talent, depth and versatility."

"But Taylor did indicate keeping new coach Buzz Williams, the party most involved in his recruitment, might give MU a chance at keeping Taylor."

"Trevor Mbakwe will make an impact once he’s fully recovered from knee surgery. Among the incoming recruits, Tyshawn Taylor could make the biggest impact as a combo guard"
Title: Rivals mistakes

I know someone who does the Rivals work for another school, and apparently they pay almost nothing but basically save their contractors a bunch on ticket access.  Those mistakes are awful though.

Rivals also indicated that we're returning all five starters.

Rivals also indicated that we're returning all five starters.

That argument could be made since we platooned the 5 spot last year with Burke/Barro.

Technically, I guess, we return 4 1/2 starters.
