Title: NBPA Player Rankings
Post by: drbeauch on June 26, 2008, 11:00:25 PM
Both Cadougan (#18) and Maymon (#19) fared very well in Bob Gibbon's player rankings for the NBPA Top 100 camp last week. Cadougan was named Top Playmaker and was ranked ahead of Abdul Gaddy (#29) and Eric Bledsoe and Michael Dixon, neither of whom were ranked in the top 30.

If MU has in fact landed Cadougan, that's a major coup.

For what it's worth, Jamil Wilson was not ranked in the top 30.

Cadougan really seems like the real deal, and a player that would fit in well for us.  Hopefully we hear something soon.

Jamil's a player, but sadly I don't see how he'd fit in with the other recruits at this moment.

Some "Inside" source on the other board has indicated that McMorrow and Cadougan will be announced officially in July.  Not sure what kind of value you can put into unnamed sources but they were trying to draw the Canada connection. (Cadougan, McMorrow, and our new study hall guy or staff person from Toronto)

Actually of Gibbon's top 30 guys-----only about 20-25% of Scout's top 50 guys of the 2009-10 class were at that camp. They make it sound like just about all the top ranked people attend the NBPA camp----not so.

Yet if you look at Gibbon's list, only one player was not in the ESPN/Scout's Inc Top 100, and that player is ranked in the top 100 on Rivals.  It all depends on what ranking you use.

Murf - that's a valid point (although I haven't compared the camp invitee list to each of the major recruiting rankings) - the important take away for me, however, is that Gibbons (and his opinion is highly respected by most recruiting experts) rated Cadougan higher than the other top point guards that MU has been pursuing. I would fully expect that you will see Cadougan make a significant jump in the next revised ESPN listing.

Less concerned about Cadougan's (and Maymon's) 'absolute' ranking by Gibbons then their relative position to the players that were there. And that was very good...number of presumed big names that fell in behind those two. Just one camp...but a favorable take away none the less.

So it appears that the vast majority of participants would be found in the 50-100 ranking segment.

According to this article, 13 of Gibbons' top 20 players attended the camp.

Doesn't seem like the NBPA camp helped Cadougan -----he's not even in the ESPN top 100.

That ESPN Top 100 was created before the camp and has not been updated. I suspect that when it is updated both Maymon and Cadougan will be on it with Maymon rising in the rankings and Cadougan appearing in the top 100. Erik Williams may disapppear temporarily since he has yet to appear at any camps since apparently he won't start AAU ball until July due to rehabbing an injury.

Are you telling me that an updated HS ranking doesn't include a major event that took place a whole week earlier. I can't believe that ESPN is that far behind the 8 ball.

Murf - I'm not sure what ESPN list you're looking at - the current ESPN Top 100 list (updated prior to the NBPA camp but no, not since) has Maymon at #33, Williams at #69, and Cadougan at #79. Look for both Maymon and Cadougan to make a jump when they update it next.

I'm referring to the ESPN top 100 list that bilsu just posted----he's normally a very reliable poster and if he isn't missing something here, and if you're  info is accurate on the previous rankings, it means that Cadougan actually dropped out of the top 100 after the NBPA.

Unfortunately that wasn't a reliable post.  The ranking he posted was from Scout.com, not ESPN.  ESPN's ranking is Scout's Inc.  Cadougan is still in the ESPN/Scouts Inc ranking at #79, a place he has been every day since June 1st.

You are right it is Scout.coms list. I am not sure were I got ESPN from.
I got the list from MSM home page/sports/college basketball. I look at that site daily for college basketball news. I believe it to be relatively new article on this site, since I had not previously read it. I do not know at what time period it is based on. The biggest point I wanted to make about this list is that practically every player we were listed with had large lists of interest and that there were only two power players on it that listed MU. A 6'8 PF and a 6'7 1/2' center. I assume we are using the last scholarship for a point guard. So by getting McMorrow the only ranked power players we were giving up a chance at were not much help for a sized challenged team.

Anyone know what the story is with the recruitment of Flavien Davis, I see he is 22 on ESPN top 60 of 2010.

I did see Mark Miller has dropped Flavien Davis down to 10th in the state of Wisconsin (class 2010).

He was likely a MU lean before TC left.  Now, not so much.

And that ranking is really high for him given how he's been in recent months.  He's not played particularly well in the spring and summer, he's put on some weight(not muscle), he's looked disinterested on the court for long stretches of time, and his game hasn't grown at all.  He seems to be dropping off after showing a lot of promise last year.
