We currently have one open roster spot and are pursuing transfers in the portal. If you could pick your ideal transfer, which would you prefer?
- High Ceiling: A freshman or sophomore that is unproven at this level but has time to develop and grow behind the current roster. Similar to O-Max Prosper when he joined Marquette.
- High Floor: A proven high-major grad transfer who might not develop into a star, but can provide known value for a short time. Similar to SHU transfer Tyrese Samuel.
The high-ceiling guy obviously gives you the potential for the most long-term bang for the buck, but he could be blocked by others on the roster and may not add as much to 2023-24. The high-floor guy won't be here as long, but would provide stability to the roster immediately. So which would you prefer?

Depends if all starters are back or not. If someone like O-Max turns pro, then I want the highest floor player to maximize next season's championship aspirations.
If all of the starters are back, then I favor a longterm prospect.

I have a feeling that Omax goes pro so high floor. Someone that can bang around down low for 15-20 min/game scooping boards

High Floor for sure. We have success are have a good roster right now. We need that banger that can protect the rim and score and rebound. Kind of like UConn situation.

If we're bringing everyone back this is our best opportunity for a title run in a very long time. You don't get many of these chances. Go for the high floor guy and hope he contributes when it matters most.
We have plenty of underclassmen on the roster already that fit the "high ceiling" mold.

I see no reason to take a transfer, who cannot significantly play right away.
Bring back Wrightsel if you want to fill the spot.

You could easily get a freshman transfer that won't play right away but will play in 2 years. Even someone who is not eligible to play immediately.

He has to fit in the offense Shaka runs. Shaka is not going to bring in a guy that clogs up the middle. That would stop our guards from getting to the rim. Unless someone else leaves, I don't really think Shaka is too concerned about brining in someone from the portal.

This is true, too. It’s all a fluid situation. Shaka isn’t bringing in a guy that doesn’t fit what they do just because he’s a big.

How do you know? He only had 11 players in '22 and 10 in '23 that could actually play.

Because when he had 11 in 22 he only played a 10 man rotation and when he had 10 in 23 he only played a 9 man rotation. Also because I'm not sure a single high major coach uses an 11+ man rotation
