Title: Sunday game time
Post by: Judge Smails on March 15, 2023, 11:58:32 AM
Anyone know what time MU would play on Sunday if we are fortunate enough to advance?

No one knows. Not set.

Time windows for Sunday...

11AM CBS
1:30PM CBS
4:00PM CBS
5:00PM TNT
6:00PM TBS
6:30PM TruTV
7:30PM TNT
8:30PM TBS

Best guess:

If Michigan State -- Afternoon, probably the 1:30 p.m., window

If USC -- Evening, probably late for the West Coast Audience.

Yes without looking if the 1st 7 are correct, there should be a 6 p.m. Central TBS game in there, too.

I'd have to think it will either be a CBS or TNT slot given that those are the networks that have round 1 games in Columbus.

Here are my guesses based on time zones, times of first round games, and what crews are covering the same first round games:

11:00AM CBS: Winner of MSU/USC and Marquette (Columbus)
1:30PM CBS: Winner of Purdue/FD and Memphis/FAU (Columbus)
4:00PM CBS: Winner of Iowa State/Pitt and X/Kennesaw State (Greensboro)
5:00PM TNT: Winner of Creighton/NC State and Baylor/USCB (Denver)
6:00PM TBS: Winner of St. Mary's/VCU and UConn/Iona (Albany)
6:30PM TruTV: Winner of UK/Providence and K-State/Montana St (Greensboro)
7:30PM TNT: Winner of TCU/Arizona State and Gonzaga/Grand Canyon (Denver)
8:30PM TBS: Winner of Miami/Drake and I4/Kent State (Albany)

Albany is the only Fri/Sun site with TBS covering the first round games so those seem like a lock

Denver's first round is being covered by TNT/TruTv so likely they don't get any of the CBS games

Greensboro's first round is being covered by both CBS and TruTv, given that Denver isn't likely to be a CBS game, that means the one second round TruTV game should be in Greensboro and the other will be on CBS.

That leaves both Columbus games being covered by CBS. The rest is just filling in based on what time of day the first round games are. It would make sense to try to have the teams who play early on Friday also play early on Sunday.

This is my first time paying attention to this so maybe I'm completely off and what networks were covering the first round games doesn't matter but this would seem to make logical sense.

Looks good if Joey State wins. But, if USC overcomes Vanilla Soft Serve, I'd expect Marquette USC to be in the 7:30 p.m., or 8:30 p.m., slot to satisfy the Los Angeles television market. I'm assuming all the times listed are Marquette Daylight Time (Central).

Of the 8 team pod, 6 of the teams are in the Eastern Time Zone, 1 is in the Central Time Zone, and 1 is in the Western Time Zone.  If USC and MU win, I'm guessing they're not going to prioritize the (most likely, unless the 16 upsets the 1 or the 15 upsets the 2) lowest seed left, playing in the Eastern Time Zone, over the 3 higher seeds.

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but you do realize USC is playing at 9:15 am PST tomorrow, right?

If Kentucky wins, they are a near lock at 4 pm.  Kentucky and Duke get huge ratings.  CBS isn't giving either of those teams up to TruTV.

Purdue is probably a lock for CBS.  Very good chance Marquette plays at 11 am on CBS.

If MU makes the S16 game .. do they play Thurs or Fri?

And when do the timeslots begin?   IIRC, they start at 5pm.

It really doesn’t matter which network covered the first round for the second round.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone know when the game time is announced? Trying to see if we can do a fly in and out
2) What section is the MU section?

My guess is that if Purdue wins tonight, CBS will lead off Sunday with the two games in Columbus. They usually start their round of 32 coverage with games in the eastern time zone with teams they know will draw an audience.

Let me also say that Marquette v. MSU and Purdue v. Memphis would be two awesome games for a television audience.

3 of the 4 sites on Sunday are in the eastern time zone, but Albany and Greensboro don’t have any 1 or 2 seeds and they like to feature those in the second round.

Only hang up would be Kentucky, but I could see the Columbus games being first and then UK at 4 on CBS.

In 2003 a couple Illini friends and I bought Indy tix but were only actually going to the second game, my law degree came from U if I so I was excited about the prospect of seeing both my alma maters play in the tourney. Then they both came close to losing that first game…..
I only root for the Illini and Northwestern in the B14. Otherwise I am happy to see them lose.

Every prediction about an earlier timeslot came with the caveat "if Purdue wins." Believe me, they aren't sticking Purdue / FAU on truTV like they are FDU / FAU.

Purdue is the Minnesota Vikings of the NCAAs.  High expectations, low results.

2019 - 2 seed, beaten by 14
2020- Covid
2021 - 4 seed, beaten by 13
2022 - 3 seed, beaten by 15
2023 - 1 seed, beaten by 16.
