Pretty good strategy on O for DePaul, not sure we can afford to switch every pick. Tough start for TyKo, let’s see what the subs bring. Kam is ridiculous at the rim

Their heads are not in the game.   Bodies trying to do the work but their heads are somewhere else.  Shaka - settle them down. Collect their heads.  We will start hitting threes.   But man - drive the rest of half and draw fouls and score

Own the final 4 mins of the 1H.   2-10 from distance and 6 rec league turns is why this is close.
Title: Re: MU/DePaul Game Thread
Post by: nyg on January 28, 2023, 01:38:06 PM
Omax and Mitchell just, we’ll yuck and nothing. Along with 2 for 10 from three and three Kolek turnovers.

Maybe DePaul gets tired or in foul trouble, because if MU keeps doing this, it actually may be close game. Reality is a MU blowout, DePaul is terrible.

Halftime thoughts:

Omax - he’s been unplayable. Bad on both ends
Kam - hope he’s not hobbling to start second. If so, don’t put him on the floor. It’s a liability.
Tyler - Not bad, but needs to olay more under control
Jop - loved his first half. Confident and in control. Good D

Quick start to the second half and put them away in first five minutes. Turnovers and poor outside shooting and still have the lead. Think MU will end up covering.
Title: Re: MU/DePaul Game Thread
Post by: nyg on January 28, 2023, 01:53:21 PM
Yeah, Kam is laboring.

He was in the corner when Joplin hit that top of key three pointer and Jones went to the ground.

Omax 2 points, 2 turnovers, 1 for 4 from field

Mitchell, 0 points, 0 for 3, all wide open no defense three misses.

MU 1 for 5 from free throws, with a missed frontend.  That's not good.  Omax needed in second half, where he plays much better.  Hopefully

How did Wisconsin do vs Marquette on MU's home court?
Title: Re: MU/DePaul Game Thread
Post by: MuggsyB on January 28, 2023, 01:54:58 PM
He was in the corner when Joplin hit that top of key three pointer and Jones went to the ground.

Omax 2 points, 2 turnovers, 1 for 4 from field

Mitchell, 0 points, 0 for 3, all wide open no defense three misses.

MU 1 for 5 from free throws, with a missed frontend.  That's not good.  Omax needed in second half, where he plays much better.  Hopefully

Absolutely.  Use Oso more in general.

Quick start to the second half and put them away in first five minutes. Turnovers and poor outside shooting and still have the lead. Think MU will end up covering.

Goose,

I think we're overdribbling a bit and somewhat hesitant.  OMax has to get going.

1-5 on free throws not good.  We need to correct the easy things.  The longer DePaul stays in this thing the harder we will make it on ourselves.  A good start to the second half should and we'll be fine.

The good news is we’ve seen this a lot this year and we typically play a great second half.

Yes not moving the ball crisply. That’s the key to getting open shots.   Need to continue to take it to the hoop, and/or kick out for wide open three.  Gooo Marquette!

Yes, took a knee to the hip/lower back after a decent start.    Had to sub out.    Came back in, but ineffective since the injury.

Mitchell looked over at scorers table, saw he was being subbed and missed another wide open three.

Gibson with three fouls, need a fourth on him.  DePaul is just terrible.

Man I love this team.  They could have easily gotten out of sorts after that first half.  Props to Shaka and all the guys for staying calm and throwing darts in the 2H.
