Title: Why I Hate The Depaul Game
Post by: Not A Serious Person on January 27, 2023, 11:37:43 AM
If MU beats Depaul by a million, no one cares.

If they lose, eternal shame.

So, this game stresses me more than playing at Uconn or X.

Also the Wintrust tends to run out of beer when Marquette is in the house for some reason.

You may be taking college basketball a little too seriously.

I love that on the Twitter thread where DePaul announced a sell out there was an MU fan admonishing them for poor concessions and the DePaul account actually engaged.

But seriously remember to get your buzz on beforehand because those concessions are piss poor, super slow, not enough, and bad at pouring beer.

MU has lost three of its last five to DePaul and is 2-3 all time at Wintrust.
How have you not leapt in front of a train by now?

A few years ago they lost pressure in the beer lines at all of the concession stands. I'd love to hear a rundown of what exactly the problem is from whomever is in charge of that situation. If Murphy's can figure it out, people running a literal stadium should be able to figure it out.

Curious how a literal stadium differs from one that isn’t?

If I remember last year, it was the credit card connection in a cashless arena. That's especially impressive when your sponsor is a bank.

I tried to pay in cash but got "that's not allowed sir".  I said it's legal tender and it's illegal to not accept it. Forced Dry February.

Got up to get a beer with 5 min left in halftime. Didn't get back to my seat till 11min left in the game. Similar thing happened during our TBT run in 2020.

That stadium is a crap show with a nice exterior.

Anyone remember the last time it was on a Saturday the game had already started and was well underway while fans were still attempting to enter because they didn't know how to funnel people in at a fast rate.

I don't like beer, I love it and it loves me unlike my relationship with whiskey which is at best me getting abused by it.

Galway

Those relationships don't change much over time. Would say I have nearly 40 years of similar relationships with beer and bourbon. I still try and even close the gap with bourbon, but it seems that I am not gaining much ground.

As much as I enjoy beer, I would never miss a half of Marquette basketball for the right to pay ridiculous prices for crap beer, but I'm crazy that way. We're going to 2 games in February; we'll support local establishments before and after the game.

As for the O.P. and "nobody caring" if we beat DePaul ... I think most of us here care.

I don't care that people who don't care about Marquette basketball won't care after we crush DePaul tomorrow. And ESPN's crawl will still show our score -- with a #16 next to our name -- a couple dozen times an hour, too.

This!!!
I won’t go to MU/DU anymore. It a no win situation. We beat up on crappy DU or the unfathomable happens.

The other day on WGN they were making a big deal because it’s DU’s 100 anniversary or some bs….mentioned the sell out hoops game vs MU. Gosh I hope we stomp them, hold them in 30’s and hang 80 plus on them…..

RING OUT AHOYA!!!

Reggies exists for a reason. I mean, and their wings. And some good local band shows too.

Probably doing skylark or pleasant house beforehand. Frontier after.

I talked Reggie's wings up way too much to my wife, she expected points east, she got some good sauces.

Those pleasant house pies are dreamy. And their mashed potatoes are wonderful. I like the mushroom pie, my wife likes the chicken balti one. Can't really go wrong, though.

We only won by 20 ... and all of us care ... and we'll move up in the polls ... and our score will be shown 100 times the rest of the day/night on the bottom line with us having crushed the same team that beat Xavier in the same building.

We have to get over worrying about past stuff that has no bearing on the present. If anything, stuff like losing at Wintrust in the past or struggling down the stretch in the past will fuel this team to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Enjoy more ... worry less!

The 2022-2023 Marquette Men’s Basketball team will bury the past over the upcoming weeks. Talent, chemistry and a chip on the shoulder is a combination that is very difficult to derail. My advice to the negative folks, sit back and enjoy one of the most exciting MU teams in decades.

Good news for some, you do not need to know ball to appreciate this team.

I know it's human nature, but folks just gotta let it go.

If Scoop were around 20 years ago, every day there would have been folks talking about what we didn't do under Deane and Dukiet, and what happened the year before, and how that somehow proved we couldn't get to the '03 Final Four.

Disagree … if we won by 6, 20 or 36 our ranking Monday was going to be the same.

But! … if any of the pollsters dig deeper (and I suspect not enough do) seeing the #1 Kenpom offense put up 89 on the road WITH their leading scorer hurt and on the bench will definitely impress.
