Title: [Paint Touches] Top 10 MU dunks from the 2000s
Post by: PaintTouches on January 25, 2023, 12:51:27 PM
I'm not over Chase's dunk yet, and without another game to fill that void, thought I'd put a quick list together.

https://painttouches.com/2023/01/25/top-10-marquette-dunks-from-the-2000s-dwyane-wade-deonte-burton-chase-ross/ (https://painttouches.com/2023/01/25/top-10-marquette-dunks-from-the-2000s-dwyane-wade-deonte-burton-chase-ross/)

I'm a 2012 grad, so adding that to the fact videos from the early and mid 2000s are harder to find, definitely biases the ranking. Curious to hear which ones you suggest that I may have left off altogether.

Awesome list, though I think the O-Max, JJJ, and Oso honorable mentions should all make the top 10. Thanks for digging up the Wade vs. ECU footage

What about Blackledge? If my memory is correct, he made ESPN's Top 10 plays twice. Which is pretty amazing given how much he played.

Ah yes.  The Derrick Wilson dunk that remind Ners of...himself.

Send it in, medium-size fella!

Another reason Raft is the best in the business.  A play on his own legendary call.  Onions!

Yeah.  Pretty basic dunk actually.  No resistance on a baseline drive and a late defender who elevates too late?  That being said, no doubt Derrick's best play at MU.

Go back and watch some replays of Buzz era games. It is shocking how brutal we were on offense for long stretches in many games. We were kind of built like how Providence is now. Struggled to score in the half court but we didn't turn it over, we got a lot of offensive boards, and got to the foul line.

First player that came to my mind, honestly. I tried pretty hard to find Blackledge dunk vids, and there's not much out there outside of dunk contests at Madness. They may be lost to time.

A 6-2 pg dunking over and drawing a foul on a 6-9 forward is impressive.

A lot of great dunks by multiple guys, but in last 20 years, Wade and Burton are top two for me. Burton got me out of seat, similar to Artie Green 40y+ ago.

I may be biased because I had a photo of the Wade v. East Carolina dunk on my work computer screen saver rotation for years after, but having that so low in this list is just silly.

The last one at Providence is better than the one at DePaul, in my opinion.

Here's the clip. Kolek said on a pod this week Keeyan is the best dunker, and this would have been an all-timer.

Keeyan had my out of my chair for second on that drive. Zero doubt that the kid is an athlete.

Which is why I keep preaching patience.  At worst, he is Trend Blackledge.  That athleticism gets harnessed and his skill catch up...
