Title: MU/Ga.Tech Game Thread

It's time for a complete performance.  We desperately need a W.

I would be happier if Kam Jones stops playing hero ball!  See if Shaka is getting into his head

I'd like to see Stevie and OMax in particular be more aggressive offensively.  Definitely need more paint attacks and ball movement.

Stevie a bit out of control on two drives.  Use the shot fake.

Someone needs to tape a picture of Markus Howard to the mirror in the locker room so Kam can look at it and then at himself.  Maybe then he would realize he isn’t Markus Howard

I know they made a heave three, but that D was great. Didn’t bite on the head fake, love it. Joplin on the other hand might have to add more than being a slightly above average shooter. Decent half.

Pretty good half, but we have absolutely no sense of how to close a half.

Joplin has been absolutely horrible.  Cost the team 7 points combined on both ends that last 60 seconds.

All else looked pretty strong.

Great half, brutal finish.

Jop would be slow in an adapative basketball league.

Not sure what was more mind boggling his "fast break" dribble. Or whatever you call that attempt on the beautiful Oso dime.

Up 18
Ball of S. Jones thigh. GT gets two free throws
Ball off Kolek foot, GT drains a three
Joplin at bucket…..ouch
Up 13, five points, we’ll thrown away. Maybe seven.

Bad last minute or so and great defense, especially Mitchell

Except Joplin helped where he didn't need to and left his man pretty open for that 3.  Absolutely brutal half for Jop.  He's going to be one of those head scratcher players.  Ultimately think he's a 1/2 step too slow, and his shooting motion also is slow.  But, he's just in his second season, Game 5.  Hard working kid, and I think he'll get there as an upperclassmen.

I’ll have to rewatch the help, specifically I was watching Kam. I’ve said I don’t think Joplin has it, but I also hope I’m wrong. I don’t see the hard working part of his personality much yet, but I have been somewhat impressed with his rebounding in earlier games. I’m all for giving him a chance to work through it, hell, I LOVED Cain, so I can’t be a hypocrite!

Classic Rafferty comment:

Gold on wing getting ready to shoot a three “ He can drill those”. Clunk.
Next possession, Gold on other side getting ready to shoot three. Rafferty: “He can make these”. Clunk.  Rafferty : “Gonna be a process and patience with the big fella”

Gold has nice form, but he is not Kevin Durant, now 2 for 14 on the year.  Hope some go in, maybe that’s what he needs.

He will go in a stretch where he gets hot and makes several in a row and it will win Marquette a game or two, hopefully against Bucky.

He will then finish the season with a formidable average from 3 and will improve on that next season.

He will do those things ONLY if he manages to get on the court and stay on the court by playing tough defense and rebounding the ball

As someone who has live bet almost every GT possession in this game (that MU would be the next team with a FG at + money), that 3 pointer they counted was an awful bad beat.

Luckily MU came back next possession before GT scored a FG again.

Good timeout there. MU just missed four layups and a missed three by Ross.  GT only scored three points though.

BTW Ross just blocked a shot that was unreal and got no credit for it by Rafferty.  Ross is very, very, athletic.

I look for a high possession game, with one team that struggles mightily to score. Every GT possession, MU is +140 to +150 to score next. It’s been a profitable venture tonight.

Here we are at the point in the game where the last 10 minutes really matters for metrics purposes, in a game MU has controlled from the tip.

Have a bad finish and win by 10 or less and it doesn’t help much.

Finish strong and win by 25+ and you get a decent bump.

You’d have to imagine that G Tech doesn’t have a very good NET by seasons end, what’s their projection?

Good timeout there. MU just missed four layups and a missed three by Ross.  GT only scored three points though.

BTW Ross just blocked a shot that was unreal and got no credit for it by Rafferty.  Ross is very, very, athletic.

Good observation.  Thar was great help D from CR.

So is Skechers suggesting you buy a pair of shoes whose only purpose is to be worn in the airport?

LOL

Good.  Marquette is taking care of a bad team.  That’s a great sign

Great overall performance from the Warriors today.  Hopefully this bodes well moving forward despite G.Tech being pretty bad.

Nice win.  Osa is no question. SOTG  Tyler played a great game.   2 turnovers?

GT not that good.    .

Jones only took one or two bad shots,  he is learning.  He get all the shots he wants but he is a much better player when he takes his time.  Played well tonight, even had assist.

Has the vision to be an elite passer if he wants

He was physically overwhelmed last night. Not tonight.
We didn't play last night. Just giving you crap....

There were two plays tonight that I would put on a loop if I was Shaka. A drive by Ross and a drive by Kolek.  They planted both feet, were under control, shot faked, and converted.  We miss too many chippies because we rush them, are not balanced, and don't read the interior defenders.

My daughter said the same thing!

put Kevin McHale and Kevin Garnett highlights on a loop and give to Oso. If Oso had a 12-15’ face-up jumper he’d be an unstoppable beast.

I agree on your thoughts on Oso. Many on here gave up on him last season and it is amazing the change of heart. He has a chance to be a very, very good player moving forward. IMO, if Omax can become more consistent offensively it is going to Oso even better.

It feels like Omax needs to slow things down a bit on the offensive end. If feels like he’s rushed.

agreed. If Omax can let the game come to him, he’ll be a matchup migraine. Against an opponent like WI, his athleticism can dominate. But if unsettled and out of sorts, he’ll be a non-factor. For MU to win that game, we’ll need the settled Omax. And as Goose points out, will benefit Oso.

Yes.  Too often he goes stone straight line-lay-up off of one foot.  Plant, gather, use the shot fake and pivot foot, and throw the ball down with power through contact.

I foresee Oso with the potential to put up about 14 and 8 by next season. Assuming he gets opportunities.  I would like to see him get more touches in our offense right now and from various spots.
