Morsell:

When the "white" team lost to the "blue" team during a practice scrimmage, Smart made the losers do bear crawls across the floor. But soon after they started, he blew his whistle. They were moving too slowly.

"He got on the baseline with them and did a whole bear crawl, full court, with them," Morsell recounted. "He basically lapped them. It was crazy. Coaches tell you to sprint down and back, but they don't ever do it. He obliterated everybody. I've never seen a coach do anything like that."

Hmm...if a 40 something coach can out bear crawl twenty something players, then Coach Smart has a lot of work to do or we're in big trouble.

No wonder the BE Coaches ranked us 9th.

Metcalf really earned his paycheck with this article. Comprehensive, perceptive, analytical, optimistic, and character revealing.

This is the most positive article I think I've seen from ESPN regarding Marquette or the Big East since oh... roughly 2013.

That's the most I've enjoyed an article from Myron Medcalf in a long time.

Wow only talks of 77 & 03 but no mention of 74? Everybody angry tweet at him so he has to use his "guys I'm from Milwaukee and have a soft spot for Marquette" line.

I kid this was a weirdly good and fair article for Myron.

This article really sums up why I am so confident, even about this year. I truly believe that this season, and this group of guys, are going to create a long term culture of winning at MU. Everything I have heard is that guys buy into Shaka 100% and that is going to be a key this season. I am fully expecting an exciting style of play and a chip on the shoulder attitude.

As am I.  I am just not expecting consistent winning since he doesn't have the veteran presence talked about in the article.  I think we are going to see long stretches of bad offense.

Takes some driving skill to be able to make it down those hallways and through the tunnels.

If you weren't sold on Shaka Smart before you read this, you are probably sold on him now.

That's the most I've enjoyed an article from Myron Medcalf in a long time.

Speaking of which, Marquette (even with wojo) is up 8-1 over Wisconsin on top 150 recruits since this dumb article was written.

Also it is hilarious that Florida State is considered a bad job.

Also of note, the Fox media deal started in 2013 and expires in 2025.

He's generally terrible. Which is probably why I enjoyed the fluff piece from him, it's a very unexpected move.
