One of those "Has Wojo been hired today?" accounts that just posts "no" and the picture of him staring into the middle distance in the film room.

Been quiet on the Wojo front. My guess is he is taking at least the next year off . He can enjoy  spending time with his boys and support his wife as she builds her medical practice .

So for example tonight he can go to the Brewers game instead of chasing kids in the transfer portal.

Seems like a good gig for the next year or even two .

Why do people feel the need to continue to bash Wojo, Crean, Buzz, etc.? None of them are here any longer.

In all 3 cases, I am glad they are gone. But I don't feel the need to attack THEM to prove that I am a real man.

Jockey I don’t get all the bashing and making fun of Wojo either. I thought the consensus kind of was that he was a decent guy personally. We should be better than this.
He’s not here anymore, so let’s move on.

That's what I'm guessing.  One big tell is he hasn't done a "my side of the story" story with any reporter.  He's been super quiet.  Time in a NBA franchise could be very good for him.

I know when Quinn Snyder was hired by the Jazz, I thought it was a horrible decision. Clearly, I am clueless on what it takes to be a NBA Coach.

But that’s was likely just thinking of Mizzou Snyder.  He went to the G League and was successful.  Then spent time under Doug Collins in Philly, a year with arguably the best Euro coach ever at CSKA Moscow with Messina, and then time with Bud.  He really tore it down and started over learning from great coaches. He went through an NBA coaching intensive for as long as he has been at Mizzou. If Wojo was willing to do that, then it’s a totally different story.

A guy I flew with played with Snyder at Mercer Island High. Pete went on to play at the AF Academy while Snyder went on to play at Duke. My buddy told me that Snyder is incredibly smart and that Snyder got a JD and MBA from Duke while also working as an NBA assistant coach. Either one of those programs alone would be challenging. But to do a dual degree while also working full time in a demanding role is incredible.

Story about Molitor.

I think it was 1990, and IIRC, my friend got MU's tickets to a Brewers game.  We had amazing seats, a row up from the Brewers' on deck circle, like 15 feet away from us.

If memory serves, Molitor hit a solo HR in the 1st inning, and it turned out to be the only hit for the Brewers that day.

Molitor went to my high school, so at his 2nd at bat, I figured I'd say hi, you know, being fellow alums and all.   He turned to me and rolled his eyes and went right back to swinging in the on deck circle.

I was not worth a wave.   :-\   #sadtrombone

Molitor was a dozen years before me.

My HS brushes with fame was that .. when I was a freshman, Steve Walsh (won Nat Championship @ Miami, 4th in Heisman voting) was my platoon leader.

When I was a senior, Chris Weinke (won and lost Nat Championships @ FSU, won the Heisman) was in my platoon.

Yup.  My grandfather was the first graduating class on Hamline in 1919.  My dad was 1950.

Every decision has at least a bit of surprise until it's made.

Wojo being fired was .. 10% surprising.

The idea fired him because "they thought they could get Shaka" is silly.   Wojo was fired March 19, at which time Shaka had just won the B12 tourney and was getting read to play the NCAAs as a #3 seed.

Forgetting that quote .. On paper, how we ended up with Shaka is bonkers.   "Let's fire Woj.  I wonder if the B12 tourney winner and #3 seed will lose to the #14 seed and we can snatch that guy.  That #14 seed has 19 Q4 wins, I bet they are due."

Agreed on this.

There had already been widespread discussion, plans (or hopes by fans) to oust Shaka at Texas, last year or the following year. His seat was as hot as Wojo's. There were rumors that Shaka was aware of this and would consider jumping ship to the right place, because he was unhappy in Texas.

I believe it was fairly well known behind the scenes that Marquette was one of those "right places."

Surprise from a financial perspective. Not a performance perspective.

This. Of course. The vast majority of Scoopers thought Wojo should have been fired.

But yes, it was a pretty big surprise from a financial perspective. To me, at least.

Those who claim it wasn't very surprising at all ... I don't remember many of them saying in late Feb or early Mar that they were certain he'd get canned. Even most of the biggest nojos were like, "This sucks. We're going nowhere. And we're gonna be stuck with him."

Seems like Wojo is having a good quality life in Utah. Making some money here, doing some Team USA  coaching and ESPN.

I could see Wojo potentially applying for the Georgetown job when it eventually opens. That is a big if, considering how much guaranteed coin Ewing is making.

Kind of fits his formula. He can make a Powerpoint to the Trustees and then promote all the history of the program. My guess is he could probably elevate the Hoyas to solid mediocrity, which is a step up from the current abysmal state of the program.

The question is does he want to give up the good life and move his family again?

I don't know why Wojo would be remotely attractive to GTown.  He's never rebuilt or built a program.  He sat at the hand of a successful legend and then took over a program that was in really good shape.

The Gtown job was made for early 2000s Tom Crean.  But since he no longer exists, I'm not sure who.

Going way back when the state was partially "dry", in some "wet" counties in North Carolina, you were allowed to bring your own liquor into an establishment and pay a fee for glasses and drinking your liquor at a table. The liquor had to be in a paper bag and kept under the table when it was not being poured.

Much of this depends on how much media training he has had. If one looks at some sports figures when they first broadcasted, they were awful.

It’s beyond media training.  Look at the best former players/coaches turned broadcasters starting out, they are rough but they have personality, charisma, or charm that shines through.  The organization of thought, manner of articulation, etc… comes after.  Wojo showed none of that.  If Shaka did TV and came off rigid or cautious, then I could see the “wait and see approach” cause his manner of speaking and articulating as a coach is engaging and infectious.  But nobody that watched Wojo coach and speak as HC for 5+ years was like “he’s gonna be great on TV”.  He would be like listening to a white noise machine as a commentator in game

Wojciechowski, who has been living in the Salt Lake City area since departing Marquette in 2021, has been eager to make the leap into pro coaching and now lands with a franchise replete with young players and three first-round picks in the 2023 NBA draft.

He had spent time around the Jazz organization over the past two years, especially in the 2021-22 season because of his longtime relationship with former Jazz coach Quin Snyder. Wojciechowski spent time this past season attending some Jazz practices and building a relationship with coach Will Hardy.

Old School journalism not reporting innuendo.

The article had this paragraph:

"The Stars will be coached this season by Steve Wojciechowski, who coached Hauser during his first college basketball season at Marquette in 2018-19."

I would think many (perhaps most) readers would immediately wonder: "So why only one season?"

Adding a sentence like this -- "Hauser and his older brother, Sam, left Marquette after that season due to a difference of opinion about how the team was being coached" -- would have been fact, not innuendo, and it would have added context for readers.

Given that Hauser will be playing for Wojciechowski again, I think readers would be interested in that.

Brother MU and I had many of the same Journalism professors at Marquette.

Our favorite, having graded the Wojo story in MIL would have graded it "F", Mandatory Re-write, for leaving out the Hauser/Wojo/Howard dispute that led to Coach Wojo's downfall. To leave that fact out, even for a largely Michigan audience, is journalistic malpractice.

The Baby Hauser as a draft afterthought is no surprise. Perhaps the Baby Hauser never learned to read and, as such, missed that Wojo was hired in Utah. God only knows but I would have thought he would play in Outer Slobobia before 80 cave-creatures before he played for Wojo again.

Wojo record for Salt Lake Stars now 16-13.

Had Isaiah Thomas (the younger) producing 32.5 ppg for four games. Thomas was  then signed up by The Sums to a 10 day contract . Wojo job is to get guys into The Association( or in this case back to The Association)

Still no Wojo sightings on College Coaching Carousel. I think he may be positioning for NBA Assistant to finish career
