Title: Anyone have insights on Perez and Ighodaro
Post by: TrojanWarrior on December 21, 2020, 07:06:35 PM
Hello,

Just joined, obviously. First post. Have appreciated eavesdropping on the board's insights. (Graduated from MU decades ago, no deep knowledge of current players, prospects or happenings.)

Anyone have any insights on Jose Perez?  Saw him in a G-Webb game last year randomly, and watched video, he looked like a good presence. But, he has been riding the pine. Is his level just not there for BigEast play? Also, Ighodaro, seems raw, but capable.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,

TW

Perez was going to sit out to focus on his game and improve.  It wasn't until the NCAA called this a free year that he applied for his waiver.  To me that indicated, he knew he was an "if needed" player.  I think he got some run in the non-conference but I expect that to be near zero moving forward unless something happens.  With fewer games there just won't be an opportunity.

There are only so many open minutes and not everyone can play.  Ighodaro is the most raw player so I see as a pseudo-red shirt.  He will work on strength and hopefully be ready closer to his junior season.  I wouldn't have been surprised if he wouldn't have redshirted if the season would have been different.

Welcome to the board. Nice to see someone join with a focus on the team and players.

I think Ball Boy did a nice job of outlining the situations for Perez (transitioning from mid major) and Ighodaro (really skinny).

These Player Profiles from Anonymous Eagle were written pre-season but they may give you some sense for what was expected of these guys and others on the newcomer heavy squad.
