I’ve come to the conclusion that the guy is just a tool. Probably peaked in his 20s.

Clearly under the erroneous impression that he’s on a different level, intellect and humor-wise.

Most likely the kind of guy who gave himself a nickname and then got angry when it didn’t catch on.

It’s amusing to read the posts of a guy who is so obviously starving for attention
and comes to a college basketball message board for validation.

I think it’s poor form for a moderator to start an entire thread criticizing another poster, and basically inviting other posters to join in.  Seems like that goes against the rules of this board.

I understand what you are saying.  He was there during the AL years and knows what it take to be great.  The thing is we all know what it takes to be great l(a Hall of Fame coach and 5 star recruits).  What he doesn’t get is that it will take time or we get lightning in a bottle.  The constant negativity is annoying. His schtick is just stupid.

Everyone knew that was coming, just like in the past.  Every instance in which he is criticized, you come to the rescue defense.  Same with the retired Keefe.

When Marquette loses a big game, the Nojos criticize Wojo.  When Marquette wins a big game, Projos (including one of the board’s moderators) attack individual posters.  Talk about a divided fan base.

Understand that, but you may want to check your past posting history.  Just bringing up fact you have on numerous occasions backed him up after someone "dissed him" in some way.  At least you complemented the team and coach on a victory tonight.  Like I said, he is a smart guy, just needs a few positive posts on occasions to back his "support" of the program.

You said Joey was going to be a one and done at MSU and attacked his character.  I doubt you’d be saying any of that if he was still on MU’s roster, but being as butthurt as you are over his transfer, you wrote what you did.  Hence the comment about blue and gold glasses.

That might have been the very first time I ever mentioned Joey Hauser in a post but you seem like the type of guy who doesn’t really care about facts.

Fact: Joey whined. Joey pouted. Joey played terrible defense.

Go ahead and continue to embrace the negative. I’ll stay positive.

I will give you credit, though, that when you criticize the team, it is almost always legitimate and deserved. I have never criticized your fandom for the Warriors.

4ever has nothing good to say about the team, coach, or players. Always here when they lose; seldom here when they win. I’ll gladly take 100,000 fans that aren’t like him.

It seems like I’m in the minority here, but I find 4ever’s act to be pretty funny.  If nothing else, his combination of Yooper speak mixed with Ebonics is wholly original.  I’ve perused a lot of message boards in my time, and have never come across a poster with a schtick quite like his.

Having posters of different ages and viewpoints makes Scoop a better place.  I was not around during the Al years, but I do find it fascinating to hear about them.  So I think it’s pretty crappy when people use terms like “sweater vests” to describe fans who, over the last five decades, have helped build the foundation of the program we currently have.  The Al era was a lifetime ago, and I’m glad there are still a few people around who remember it and like to talk about it.  I’ll always be happy to listen.

Judging by this thread, though, it looks like there are others who’d prefer it if Scoop was more like the Dodds board.

All I know is that people say he’s a dentist, and I wonder who he is. I’m a dentist as well, likely 30 classes his youth, but maybe he taught me at the dental school? Or maybe not- either way I just read what he says and wonder what’s rolling thru the lumber inside the skull.

That said, i do misspell things on purpose in my everyday life so maybe I’m on the same path

I applaud your sense of proportion and fair play (and agree that we should be celebrating instead of starting threads attacking one of our posters) but let’s not kid ourselves. This thread (and all the piling on) is more about politics than Marquette basketball.

Is it? I honestly don't know, I didn't venture into the politics board when it was a thing and I don't go into the COVID board. Do most of the nojos gravitate towards one political party and the projos another? Cause if that's a thing, that's fascinating.

I was sitting out the piling on your guy. I didn't do it, and I won't. The other dentist chose to go political so I thought I'd have some fun.

you've got to be "soiling" me!  every time you post it's political- your cute little subliminal "battle cry" quote, umm bottom of your posts-funny thing(well not really) is he probably doesn't even remember saying that

Some crossover, for sure, but I’d venture there is likely some correlation. More importantly, though, in this election/covid year 4ever has been vocal about his politics - and they definitely don’t mesh with the politics of the mods or the majority here. His views on the basketball program are no different now than they were last year, the year before or the year before that. Suddenly, a lynch mob is up in arms over them. LOL.

Funny thing is that 90% of the posts are from rocky and his crew. I think the younger crew needs to get lit and laid. Lot of frustration with the faction of scoop.

Goose, Good lord.  I take plenty of heat here from lots of people.  And I'm happy you think I'm young (hah) or have a crew.  I'd venture to say I correspond socially with less people on MUScoop than you do.

My initial post was just things 4ever posted today that he deserved to be razzed for.  In, fact maybe you missed my words in that post:
Bro, I know you love MU hoops, but your posts from the last 24 hours don't make it seem like you're rootin' for an MU win...

Huge win today, and I spent the evening partying.  Did you.  Did 4ever?  Hope you got laid today!

Nope. And I didn't think you meant anything evil by it, Tony. But it's probably not the best metaphor to use in this day and age -- or any day and age, really.

Only my opinion, of course. Maybe others love metaphors that invoke images of the kind of horrific violence Black folks faced in America for generations.

I know the personalities on this site are a lot to deal with.  I'm a frequent reader, and a lackluster poster, but damn man...we just downed an overrated, top 5, rival bucky.  4ever can truly be annoying, but how about we put our guns in their holsters for 36 hours.  We back the same team.  Whether you are projo/antichowski, koby/kobe, or JFB/JFL (Lewis) we should take a minute to smile and enjoy a good win.  Just because we had a good game without a ton to complain about doesn't mean you need to project your B.S. on others.  R-E-L-A-X.  It's a good night.

You (ideally) never have to watch a Brad Davison flop again.  That is cause for celebration.  Enjoy it.

Maybe from a different perspective then I come from but I will never doubt their fandom. In tonight's moment of celebration I don't think either deserved to be called out.

They can be ageist when the season gets on and their views are challenged but they are intelligent individuals that are proud MU alumni.

It was a huge win and I celebrated big time. Latest I have stayed up in 2020 and had a lot of old MU friends reaching out about the victory. It was very nice to talk MU ball in a 100% positive tone with people I have shared a lot of MU wins with over the years. Winning cures a lot of ailments and it was a big time win last night.

Mike,

I’m (as you well know) old. My first exposure to a “lynch mob” was reading a short story in 8th grade called “The Ox Bow Incident”, a cautionary tale about rushing to judgement. Race had nothing to do with it, it was simply a story about mob mentality and the injustice it can engender. It struck a chord with me, as did numerous movies/TV shows, books and plays like 12 Angry Men.

Sometimes words/terms have more than one meaning and require the reader to view them in context. That’s another thing in short supply here sometimes. If you are unable to do that regarding the term “lynch mob” I apologize for triggering and offending you. It was certainly not my intent.

Ya see atl MU...you should know better from an anonymous msg board, you aren’t getting an iota of what any of the people on this board are like. If you think you know who we are, I feel sorry for you. Example, Galway and I are on opposite spectrums but we have a little something in common and we have pm’d about it and it’s cool.  On the board, I will occasionally engage him, but with a little more respect cuz he seems like a pretty cool dude who just sees things a,little different than I. There are times I think sitting down with sully over a stiff NA beer might be enlightening to see how each other ticks for example

But to broad brush someone based on a couple posts is your potential loss.  Another example, Lenny and I used to get after it, then I met the guy and holy schnitzel, what a fun/funny well rounded guy he didn’t become,
but, was, always like that.  I just had to discover it for myself

So maybe your comment was part in jest?  Cool, but just remember many of the guys here are actually pretty cool. I think the “other ones” speak for themselves

Lenny

First, congrats on the win last night. I thought of you immediately after the ball went in the hoop. It was a great win and hopefully a start of something. Not sure if you or the other old guys agree or not, but my whole reason for preaching my stance on here is because I want the "younger" folks to have a long list of memories like last night. We all were spoiled and agree that was a once in lifetime era for MU ball. That said, it does not mean that a new once in a lifetime MU program cannot happen again.

I have celebrated every big MU win for 50 years and proud of that. Beating UW, especially highly ranked Bucky, is always a highlight of a season. It is funny, but the young folks on here often highlight their memories of big MU wins in a similar way to the old guys talking big wins. Have heard about the Vander shots to win games, Novak delivering in the clutch and Dwade taking the boys to the FF and I love hearing all of those stories. Everyone on here wants MU to create a lifelong memories and having a longer lifetime of memories is not a crime.

Sadly, this board has become much more than about MU ball. Politics, covid, BLM and other issues have jaded folks on here. I post on very few topics because I try to only comment on topics I can bring some insight or experience. I soured on here because two topics, outside of MU ball, I could bring insight to saw my comments completely ignored or dismissed. The HK protests and beginning of covid economy are topics I would challenge anyone to a debate on, yet some posters who could not find HK on a map became the experts.

Not that I give a crap, and I do not, but I posted in early Feb on the Covid situation and potential challenges on the economy and it was completely dismissed because "experts" joined the conversation. I used to read non ball topics in attempt to learn something I did not know and have stopped doing so. Too many on here believe they are experts and have no need to learn from others, unless it is something adding positive re-enforcement to their narrative.

I always laugh when idiots on here call me a boomer, because I am not sure I am old enough to be a boomer, but that is what my kids call me whenever I bulk up a little bit or a lot. It has always been a reminder to get on the treadmill or buy bigger pants. I like to think I am one year too young to be a "boomer" and will take that to my grave, but if I am a "boomer" not sure how that should be a negative against me. I truly hope all the young folks have parents that are still alive and they refrain from being negative to them because they have a longer list of memories to share.

It's true we have different opinions. I, for example, don't actively cheer for Marquette to lose. Neither do I react gleefully when we miss out on a recruit. Nor do I belittle  the recruits that do choose to come here, including 4-stars like Lewis.

I also don't have a schtick that not even a 3rd grader would find interesting, but that is why the ignore button is so awesome.

You did some homework and dug up my quotes, but neglected a post from about a week ago where I commented that MU wins the next 2 games (OSU, UW). As for last night's game, I had a prior commitment and was only able to watch about 5 minutes at the beginning of the second half. That's when my only post of the game showed up. Props to Woj, staff, and players on a job well done.
Never, and I mean never, make the mistake of questioning my love and allegiance to Marquette University and our basketball program. The University means the world to me and has been at the forefront of my professional and personal growth. I truly cherish the friends I've made on this board and the common bond we share.
Wojo's country club demeanor is not my style, nor are soft players. I prefer alley cat, street fighter types. For the record, I rarely criticize a player. They are, technically not professionals, though the coach is and as such, should be held accountable.  Hopefully, this is the season that we turn the corner. However, I question MU's commitment to the program.
Lastly, for those of you who don't dig my chit, so be it. It happens, hey? You'll never change my mind, nor will I yours. I will ask that each of you keep one fundamental principle in mind, if that's what you truly believe....Hate Has No Home Here, aina?

Interesting, I think Wojo's background is pretty similar to a lot of our own and of Marquette.  Duke being a Christian based private school in a historically blue collar city of Durham.  Went to a Catholic HS in Baltimore.

Thank you, thank you Rocky for elevating me to Rock Star Status. I would expect nothing else from a fellow MU band alum.
Not much has changed on here over the five months I was away. Same bullcrap and attacks by the same folks.

Funny, I left the board for 10 years.  Decided to log back in and see how folks were celebrating the most exciting win over UW in awhile...turns out 4ever and the rest of the "things were better under Al" crew haven't changed a bit.  Y'all are lucky that Rocky and the rest of the mods put up with your bs enough to take the time to moderate.

I thought the meat eaters started their own board?

And were tough, manly men.  They seem like triggered Karens to me.  The thread was obviously started to poke a little fun at someone who has been a negative nancy about MU basketball, on an MU basketball website.  If Doc is as tough as he tries to come off, he's just fine with the original post.

And the idea that a mod can't have the same fun as anyone else is laughable.  If we were paying the dude, okay fine.  But the mods should be expected to take the time to run a free website for all of us to enjoy, and then not get to enjoy it themselves?

Sheesh!

Just curious, do you know how many scoopers are part of the MS? For the record, you might be surprised by the number of the club. In addition, the diversity of the group. What makes it special, multiple people have traveled many hours to break bread with the group. Some traveled a long way to simply to have dinner and meet people they have only known via a ball site.

Goose

Thanks for the shoutout. Your post hits every note - this board sorely misses your insights on MU basketball and the world we inhabit.

Lenny,

I would guess the large majority of us on Scoop have never and will never meet 4ever in person. For those of you who have, he might be a great guy. That wouldn't surprise me, as we're all at least a little different in real life than our internet personas. Certainly more polite and less argumentative (and, for some I hope, better linguistically).

But for those of us who haven't had the good fortune, all we know of 4ever and all we can judge him by is how he chooses to present himself on Scoop. And based on that, it's not a coincidence that "lots of people" say about him the things you mention above. That's what he puts out there on Scoop. Real world 4ever is probably very different (I hope so). But Scoop 4ever is all of those things.

And based on that, it's not a coincidence that "lots of people" say about him the things you mention above. That's what he puts out there on Scoop. Real world 4ever is probably very different (I hope so). But Scoop 4ever is all of those things.

I was a longtime lurker and miss the 4ever from years ago.  I get that he doesn’t like Wojo or what he stands for but the constant negativity is what grates on people.  The disappointment in lost recruits or games is understandable but finding glee in it like he projects?  Eh, that’s going to rub people the wrong way.  To his credit, he gives kudos when due unlike others who only show up after defeats.

I think your post sums up the problem I have with Scoop. I am first, and for the most part, here to talk MU basketball with approx 50 regular posters (just guessing on the number) and I enjoy that. Over the past few years it has become far more than basketball and that has caused a real divide on here. I can only speak for me, but the only people that piss me on here is 100% related to ball conversation. All of the other stuff I chalk up to us all being different. IMO, if 4ever (for example) had a different take on the world, his MU posts might be received differently.

Again, speaking for me, but there are folks on here that I have had confrontations with or dislike their opinion and that is fine with me. A perfect example for me would be Jockey (there are others). He is roughly my age (think older by 5+ years or so), loves MU ball, knows it's history and that seems to be all we have in common. That said, I actually do like when he points our similar (at times) views on MU ball because it hits a reset to why I am here. It reminds me that Jockey is here to talk ball and everything really is meaningless on how I feel about his view. Jockey know MU ball pretty damn well and I appreciate that. I singled out Jockey, but there are a lot of posters that I have little in common with but still enjoy the ball banter with them.

To sum it up, you are right that many might be far different in person than they are behind a stupid handle on here. I try to me and people can chose how they feel about me one way or another and I am cool with that. I might be a bigger jag on real life than I am on here, but there is no one I would completely discount or dismiss or flat insult because of what they post. Sure, I have made my attacks over the years and I have tried to apologize if I went crazy over the line.

A summary of this thread:

Old men rush to the defense of one of their own after a perceived grievance that was actually a playful barb.

Old men do their usual song and dance of the playing the victim.  Old men don't realize they are the biggest paper tigers on the board.  They are the first to attack others, play politics, but then whine like little female dogs when some have the gall to call them out on it.

This boo hoo continues for 7 pages and nothing is solved.  The aggrieved will continue to decry their perceived pariah status and will see the boogie men of 'Rocky's crew' around every corner.  The true 'deep state' of MU Scoop.

cry me a river old men, if you can't take a little good natured ribbing, then you shouldn't be on the internet in the first place.  It's a much scarier place than this message board.

Pakuni,

I’m sure you’re right - everyone has biases, and people tend to take sides based on them. My point was how blind those biases make people. In a thread where 4ever was both attacked and supported, Rocky posted “What he took from the thread”. And what he “took” was a one sided, inaccurate summary. That was my only point.

You’re right, too, that actually knowing someone rather than having a one dimensional internet relationship can be a game changer. It’s a lot easier to judge people you don’t actually know and the internet is a perfect vehicle/platform for that bad habit most people share.

Bottom line? Free country, people can make whatever judgements they want about 4ever. You don’t have to take my word that he’s a smart, funny and thoughtful guy in “real life”. You can dismiss it as my opinion - which it is. What’s fact, though, is that he is a loyal, dedicated Marquette fan. He pokes fun at those he considers myopic kool aid drinkers, sure. And that gets under some people’s skin. Fair enough. But that he cheers against Marquette or is happy about us losing recruits is fiction. No matter how many times it’s repeated here it’s just not true. And that’s not my opinion. It’s a fact.

rocky: 4ever, you posted some crap.  Any comments?

lots of people: rocky, how dare you pick on 4ever!  You should be better!

4ever:  I barely even watched the game.  But I'm the biggest MU supported ever, don't ever question that!

So now you are the arbiter of crap. Good to know.

IWB's forum rarely engages in more than MU basketball talk.  And it's about a dozen posts a day, that while very topic and informative, isn't the most dynamic place.  Which is fine if that's what you want.

But others want to engage with the community more than simply on a basketball level.  I mean, forums have grown and evolved since the internet started.  And sometimes those forums die.

In other words, just because YOU want to simply talk MU hoops, that doesn't mean others have the same goal for Scoop.  Including the mods.  Apparently there is some splinter group going to head off because they don't like it here.  Such is life.  The mods don't seem to care.  I know I don't.

You are correct that there were several other posts attacking 4ever, and I do take the blame for starting a thread in which that happened.  I never actually attacked him, if you read just my posts.

Some days I wish we could all get along.  There is a fair bit of playful arguments here (and you participate in that frequently!).   Many disagreements cross the line too - and we do a poor job moderating that.  Though while it's not an excuse, many of the arguments that cross the line is because one or multiple parties are being openly antagonistic.

Besides my love for MU basketball, your post is what keeps me coming back to Scoop. I am fascinated by our different opinions on BB and on life.

Why do Goose and I look at the world so differently despite growing up at the same time? I have always worked for change and trying to make the world better for all. What is the lowest handicap to date? How many rounds this year?

Until 15 years ago I was a five or better for over 25 years, now a very bad 12. Did play most rounds I have played in a year in over a decade this year and loved it. Hoping for another round or two this year.

Superstar Status now! Thanks y'all. Allow me to jump in here for a bit of clarification. My dissatisfaction of the program and recruiting has absolutely nothing to do with any of the individuals involved, except the head coach. He's a highly paid professional who will be and should be judged on his record. Given the resources at his disposal, I'd say he grades out at D+ thus far. But, the final chapter has yet to be written.
I have higher expectations than most posters here. Damn right it pisses me off when he "settles" for 3 and 4 star recruits. Its not the players fault that they grade out at that level. And the disappointment is not aimed at them. Yes, Woj and staff have discovered a few diamonds in the rough. But, overall, I'd say player development, is below average. Therefore, he needs to reel in top recruits or we're destined to finish 6th in the BE, aka not good enough. The green weenie is awarded for failure. Not because I wish him to fail, but because confidence is lacking that he will succeed.
As for y'all's criticism of me, as was stated above, I'm a big boy and can take it. So, bring it, hey?

Very nice. I just checked and about 75% of my rounds were played at 6759. Too stupid not to move a tee box at my normal course, but have learned to move a tee box at the big boy courses in WI. Ironically, the past few years my best rounds have been at Kohler course, Erin Hills or Cog Hill. Play those I am guessing at the 6400-6500 and that few yards obviously makes a difference for me. Other factor, I am usually better prepared or rested when i shell out more money.

I quit playing courses at 7k when I turned 50.    54 now.   Found a driver that actually did add 15-20 yards when well struck.    Longest I played a course this year was 6800.     The vast majority of my rounds were played in the 6300-6600 yard range.     More rounds under par than over 85.      Vast majority in the mid to high 70's.

Played a round in Myrtle Beach.   Other than that, all Michigan.    Really only played one new (to me) resort.  Forest Dunes and the Loop.     HIGHLY recommend the Loop, both directions.   Forest Dunes is nice, but feels like generic northern Michigan.    The Loop is special.

Next season go to a course called Lincoln Hills Golf Club. It is located in Ludington right on the Lake. The course, built in 1920, from the tips is 6534,however very challenging lots of sand, tricky doglegs and wind coming off Lake Michigan ( slope rating 136). They have a great dining room with view of Lake Michigan for after the round. It is semi private so you can get on the course without membership.

Here is the last of what I will say here.  If 4ever is such a huge MU fan, and a great guy...

then why do so many here think just the opposite?  Makes you think, aina?

fwiw, I don't dislike any of you.  I just think quite a few folks need to lighten up a bit.

Probably me too

I gave up on the tips on my 5 rounds this year. Just not playing frequently enough to enjoy that sort of challenge. Rather just have some fun and try and feel decent after the round at this point. The challenge this year was just getting decent contact, not even close to shot shaping. Weirdly enough, my putting was on fire.

Golf continues to bewilder me. I do enough things well to string together some decent holes, but I inevitably have 2 or 3 catastrophic holes and those make it impossible to post a decent score.

Specifically, my short game is a dumpster fire, so I can be 12 feet off the green after 2 and then card a 6. So frustrating.

But stoopid me, I still like the game, and really like the guys I play with. So I just tell them to let me know how much $$$ I owe them at the end of the round!

My short game is my strength.    A whole lot of rounds that I shoot 77 with 24-28 putts.    Drives my partners/opponents crazy how I save par or bogey from everywhere.   I am better with a 30' chip than a 30' putt.

Eh, I guess I conflated it with this post:
I was just thinking this is probably the most read thread rocky has ever started. Usually he is a thread killer but tonight is his night to shine. I always love when he tries to be clever when he puts in the lock on a thread he does not like.

But yeah.  Odd.

Srixon Z585.

I think I might go back to Mizuno or Srixon irons after I tire of this set. Both feel like pure butter.

To be honest, I haven't hit a Srixon wood in...I don't remember when. You have me intrigued..

The only thing for certain in my bag is that there will be a Tour Edge exotics 3w, my current putter and a 2i (I can't hit a hybrid to save my life).

Scoop golf outing soon?

Probably not until spring or summer.     And I love my Tour Exotics 4W.    It is what I made my ace with last month.   Nothing like them.

congratulations on the ACE!!  how many do you have?  that's fun!

a sunday in july-merrill hills, hit the stick and the ball disappeared.  we couldn't see it from the tee.  i was skeptical...sure enough, it landed directly behind the pin a foot or so away.  2 days later my son got his first one at fire ridge-grafton.  he sent some pics to cobra(his clubs) and callaway(the ball) and received a bag medallion and some free balls
