Well plenty of room to sneak up on everyone.

If (as per the Athletic), #5 in the BEAST is #48 then the BEAST is going to be pretty weak this year.
I figure (as per the Athletic) that 3-9 in the BEAST are a toss-up and that #48 seems about right barring Carton being able to play and/or a serious grad transfer which means 7-9 in the BEAST is more likely. #5 in a strong Big East should be in or close to the top 25.

Not necessarily. The Big East was strong last year, because the bottom teams were not bad teams.

MU is a bit of an unknown right now. How good will the incoming recruits be? Will Carton be eligible? Theo, Koby and Greg Elliott’s health? Any additional transfers coming in? Some change within the coaches. Hence, 40-50 is probably about right at this point, IMO.

Agree and we will know on another transfer today. Iowa State Board is Saying they are probably out and Illinois board is saying Marquette. “We will see” as our fellow Schroeder Hall floormate Rob Kwapil who died used to say.

Is this with Carton or without?

Without. Article is here: https://watchstadium.com/jeff-goodmans-preseason-top-50-for-2020-21-04-23-2020/.
48 without Carton seems optimistic to me. Not overly optimistic but optimistic.

Agreed, optimistic. That would make us a 2 or 3 seed in the NIT? I'd take it.

Just eyeballing the numbers, I'm guessing mid 50s to 60s without Carton. Still need to do a deep dive.

It's May, go back and look at his predictions last year. Like all of these guys, they get some right, some wrong. Will there even be a season this year?

Agree with this and have been saying The Program has been back a couple years. Not Old Big East 8/8 Big Dance Back but back.
That said my feeling is not pessimistic and not optimistic either. Goodman is by no means Gospel but he does get paid to do this for a living and probably knows more than I do. Either way it is good Publicity for Marquette.

Agreed..I'd say with Carton I'd estimate around 40ish. Without more like 55ish

But those Draft grades the day after the NFL Draft…very meaningful and important.

Yes

And when did he know it?

That's a decent point, but in my opinion the comparison is a little off. If Marquette signed a top 5 recruiting class (similar to a draft class), the excitement would be there and maybe ticket sales spike as a result. Ultimately it comes down to play on the court, which is what I said about the NFL draft class too. My words were something to the extent that in the end the draft grades don't mean much, but gives fans something to talk about and get excited about in the short term.
Feel free to have the last word.
-
Gosh, top 50. When do we get excited? I hear we are also in the top 100.
-
And when did he know it?
After Chris Mack told him

Dropped to #49 but still in top 50 baby!
