Title: Travis Diener (not) in quarantine zone in Italy
Post by: Marcus92 on March 13, 2020, 10:20:20 AM
It's a subscriber-only article, but a really good piece:

https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2020/03/10/marquette-great-travis-diener-quarantine-zone-italy/5006172002/ (https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2020/03/10/marquette-great-travis-diener-quarantine-zone-italy/5006172002/)

The Italian league Travis plays in has suspended all games. Now he and his family are living under quarantine in the Lombardy region. He shares his perspective on what life there is like.

I also didn't realize that Travis was playing on the same team as Ethan Happ this season. "I was on staff at Marquette coaching against him and I had spoken to him on the phone when we were about to sign him," Diener said of Happ. "He's been a blessing for our team. Great guy, great teammate, so all of my so-called hatred for Wisconsin is out the door."

Rocky's edit: changed title to reflect that Travis is in the US

Does anyone have any insight on the EUR:US conversion rate for millennial entitlement?

I would have guessed Europeans are much more community-oriented and therefore would be more receptive to quarantine/isolation than Americans, who are generally more rebellious and self-centric.

Lombardy us the worst area for the virus. Hope he stays Ok. Of course this is a disease that mostly affects elderly, 60 plus with underlying medical conditions. Diener is not in those categories

A few days ago my youngest showed me on a Twitter the rage #BoomerRemover

It was trending. She explained it meant younger people hoping boomers die from the virus.  What a world we live in.

Are you sure it's not Russian troll farm garbage circulating to sow discord?

It's a reference stemming from conservative regions of the south, where the most frightening and powerful thing they can imagine is snow. To them, snow shuts down everything, takes control of their very lives, forcing them to hunker down with bottled water and canned goods until it goes away.

Its usually used in reference to young liberals who want to change the status quo.

If it is "real" -- and I have really serious doubts -- I strongly suspect it's trending far more because of "boomer" pearl-clutching than young people who support the sentiment. Frankly, if I was a betting man, I'd guess it was created by someone far closer to "boomer" age than teens. Kind of has the aroma of Jussie Smollet or other similar fakes to me.

Snowflake much??

Posters like this cheapen the entire board.

Reading Scoop makes me wonder what they've been teaching at Marquette for the last 40 years.

For all of the criticisms of other boards, Scoop can out-grovel any of them.

Just to be clear.... are you're saying that young liberals are responsible for the coronavirus?  Or that young liberals don't feel the need to take precautions to the virus?

Exactly. I worked on a trading floor where thoughtless jokes about tragedies were the norm. We were young and kinda dumb.

Is the Corona Virus the trend of health of the world?
Hence, the Boomers lived in relatively healthy times.
What is down the road for the human race?
Stay tuned.

I'm not sure this is correct.  I think it stems from the term "Special snowflake", meaning unique, delicate and mentally fragile.  Falls under the "participation prize" umbrella.  IE "Well, aren't you a special snowflake!" It is used to describe someone w weak emotional fortitude, someone who needs constant validation and positive reinforcement but is in actuality a giant vagina.

Here in North Carolina the first whiff of snow and the grocery stores sell out of milk and bread.  My wife and I joke about having "milk sandwiches".  But seriously, without road snow clearing equipment and people not knowing how to drive in the snow, it is much better to just take a snow day and make some hot coco and relax at home.

We call it the "French Toast Brigade". Milk, Eggs, Bread
