Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] St. John's Preview
Post by: brewcity77 on October 21, 2019, 07:25:26 AM
I'm not saying the Johnnies will be good, but they'll probably be better than many think they will be.

Waiver denied for Ian Steere, waiver still in progress for Rasheem Dunn. This could actually be a decent team, but if two potential starters aren't available, they are still the one team that could challenge DePaul for the basement.

Dunn waiver denied. Cleveland State was opposed.

I was thinking the Johnnies could maybe challenge for eighth, but hard to see them anywhere except the bottom now. Heron and Figueroa are good, but two guys are not a team.

St. John's could be the perfect place for Anderson. While he struggled to rebuild the Arkansas program -- making the NCAA tournament just 3 times in 8 seasons -- he's a proven winner entering his 18th year as a head coach. In all that time, he's never had a losing season.

This year might be his toughest test yet. As mentioned, the Red Storm lost a lot. And the Big East is projected to be the second-strongest conference in the country.

I still remember facing Anderson's Missouri Tigers in the second round of the 2009 NCAA tournament. That was easily his best team (advancing to the Elite Eight and finishing the season ranked #6 by KenPom) -- and the closest he's come so far to replicating Nolan Richardson's 40 Minutes of Hell.

as Anderson has said, this year's Johnnies could be 25 minutes of hell, and 15 minutes of what the hell.
