Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] Loyola-Maryland Preview
Post by: brewcity77 on August 19, 2019, 07:13:30 AM
The last time Marquette faced an opening night opponent that looked this good on paper, they lost to Belmont. Here's the CS preview of the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds, a potential Q3 opportunity to start the season:

Don't be silly, Loyola-Maryland can't possibly be anything but a dog since they have no top 100 recruits.   ;)

I actually wonder about Santi Aldama. As an international prospect, he committed early, about a year ago. But since winning MVP honors at the FIBA U-18s for champions Spain, he's been mentioned as a potential NBA player. I first saw that from Jonathan Givony and now again from Evan Daniels and Josh Gershon at 247:

I know your comment was tongue in cheek, but I first wrote this at the end of last month. Aldama blew up at the FIBA U18s and might prove to be too good for the Patriot League. I thought this team looked solid without really factoring Aldama in much, but adding a raw talent getting NBA talk as a freshman could make for a really solid mid-major.

I always appreciate the research. Knowing even a little about an opponent can make watching the game more fun.

The original T-Rank did not reflect the presence of Santi Aldama, which I brought to Bart's attention. The Greyhounds jumped up to 153 from 165. If their NET matches that ranking, they would be a Quadrant 3 home game. This is a sneaky good home opener.

Potentially big news, Santi Aldama reportedly out for the first month of the season.
