Title: Old stuff
Post by: Cheeks on August 18, 2019, 08:15:42 PM
Was dry walling the attic area today and moving a bunch of old boxes around.  Found the original BBall court designs when the Bradley Center let us have our own court.  Tons of old Cyganiak trading cards, programs with TSMith Anglavar and others on the cover, the responses from season ticket holders on the annual marketing survey about schedule, pricing, the conference, etc.

So, you took personal and confidential information home from work?

I'm assuming it was aggregated into something useful instead of the individual responses.

Aggregated results, nothing personal.  Whenever we did research then or now, I never look at individual responses that are knowable to who the person is.  If there are open ended questions, that data response does appear and usually the agency will try to lump it with like minded responses to determine a trend.  Rest assured good doctor, no personal info, these are aggregated results.

I was doing some cleaning  recently and found an old Lui Magazine that they gave out in the first class section on Air France back in the day. Had a great early days pictorial of the British Pop star Samanatha Fox .

I remember in my F 16 days we flew airways to and from Asia. All the traffic in both directions were Seven Fours which, until the 400, needed to refuel in Anchorage (while we tanked in-flight.)

The commercial traffic was below 38k' while we were above Angels 44 and moving faster than the heavies. As a courtesy we checked in with comm air guys on Guard as we passed overhead and everyone acknowledged except for the Air France guys.

We were in a four ship and broadcasting in the clear about what a turd the Air France guys were. This was shortly after France denied overflight rights to the F 111 guys out of RAF Lakenheath who flew the Libya strikes back in 86. One of the Lakenheath crews caught an SA-6 over Tripoli and the Libyans dragged their naked bodies through the streets. The AAR concluded that the extra 4 hours flight time prevented a supersonic dash once feet dry which would have prevented the SAM strike.

As we were ragging on the French the American flag carrier crews joined in, telling French jokes with a vengeance. Soon, so did the Brits flying for CX, TG, and SG. Some of the finest anti-French humor danced on Tower Common and UHF Guard for all the world to enjoy.

Unfortunately, 5th Air Force copied all of our transmissions so when we landed at Misawa we had to answer a nasty gram from Yokota AB about our joke telling. Fortunately, the duty dude at 5th AF and the Wing King at Misawa both found tremendous humor in our jokes so we skated without a scratch.

Since then I have never ever flown on Air France. F#ck those guys.

That was a good story and I did understand it despite 21 references I did not understand. Military guys have their own language and assume the rest of us get it.

I remember in my F 16 (the finest supersonic tactical fighter to ever slip the surly bonds) days we flew airways (the aerial highways established by ICAO to manage the movement of commercial aircraft) to and from Asia. All the traffic in both directions were Seven Fours (747s) which, until the 400 (the 4th major modification of the 747 which featured extended range), needed to refuel in Anchorage (while we tanked (aerial refueling) in-flight.)

The commercial traffic was below 38k' (38,000 ft altitude) while we were above Angels 44 (44,000 ft altitude)  and moving faster than the heavies (larger, heavier aircraft compared to tactical fighter aircraft) . As a courtesy we checked in with comm air (commercial aviation aircraft) guys on Guard (VHF frequency used for international air distress) as we passed overhead and everyone acknowledged except for the Air France guys (Frogs).

We were in a four ship (four aircraft flying together in formation) and broadcasting in the clear (communicating on an open, non-encrypted radio frequency) about what a turd (fecal matter) the Air France guys (Frogs) were. This was shortly after France denied overflight rights (the legal permission to pass through a nation's soverign airspace) right to the F 111 (a really cool tactical attack aircraft that scared the sh1t out of the bad guys) guys out of RAF Lakenheath (a Royal Air Force base shared by the US Air Force located NNE of London)  who flew the Libya strikes (offensive retaliatory air attacks ordered by Pres Reagan conducted by the USAF after intel proved that Qaddafi was behind the terrorist bombing of a disco in Berlin frequented by US Army personnel)  back in 86. One of the Lakenheath crews caught an SA-6 (Soviet Surface to Air Missile system) over Tripoli and the Libyans dragged their naked bodies through the streets. The AAR (After Action Report) concluded that the extra 4 hours flight time prevented a supersonic dash (limited duration flight segment at speeds in excess of Mach 1) once feet dry (ingressing a coastal land mass from the sea) which would have prevented the SAM (Surface to Air Missile) strike.

As we were ragging (bitching) on the French (Frogs) the American (the greatest nation ever) flag carrier crews joined in, telling French (Frogs) jokes with a vengeance. Soon, so did the Brits (if you can't be American you would want to be this)  flying for CX, TG, and SG (Cathay Pacific, Thai Airlines, Singapore Airlines). Some of the finest anti-French (Frogs) humor danced on Tower Common (VHF Radio frequency used to facilitate air-air communications)  and UHF Guard (UHF frequency used for international air distress)for all the world to enjoy.

Unfortunately, 5th Air Force (USAF Major Command for East Asia) copied all of our transmissions so when we landed at Misawa (Tip of the Spear during the Cold War) we had to answer a nasty gram (Message from higher command authority which usually results in junior officers getting anally penetrated) from Yokota AB (JASDF/USAF base in Tachikawa, Japan) about our joke telling. Fortunately, the duty dude at 5th AF and the Wing King (God-like creature with the rank of Colonel who holds your fate in his hands over all matters great and small)  at Misawa both found tremendous humor in our jokes so we skated (unpunished) without a scratch.

Since then I have never ever flown on Air France (Frogs). F#ck (fornicate) those guys.

I designed the first court we used, very vanilla but took direction from the bosses..this is way before the crazy courts of the last 10 years.

Being passive aggressive and all, I will probably just send to the archives....wouldn’t want to harm anyone’s sensibilities here.

You can say that again.  The only time we had even a hint of a reason to storm the court during that era was a victory over a sub-.500 Notre Dame team.  I'll just keep telling myself that it built character because there was absolutely no other redeeming quality of that period of MU basketball.

Tony Smith and I were classmates. Somewhat friendly. When he would walk by our lacrosse practices he would always stop and try to figure out how to throw and catch.

Fast forward two years. I’m in law school in LA. We get tickets for a Laker game. Show up super early. He’s down on the court warming up. I made my way court side. He’s sees me and comes running over. Gives me a huge hug.

I was just impressed that he remembered who I was.

We have only been there once in the last 40 years....nothing shameful about it, let alone most shameful....you just got done saying yesterday Hank had nearly everyone back and we lost an opening round game to Miami Ohio....the 2003 team earned every damn bit to get to the Final Four, knocking off two top 5 teams along the way.

It’s a hand pencil sketch of me and this girl ( friend of mine ) who visited me from California when we were 18 and I was living at McCormick.  Her sister worked for the Packers and her brother in law was GM of WNFL station in GB.  Her dad went to Marquette medical school, so she was in Wisconsin visiting.....11 years after that sketch we were married and still are to this day.  The sketch was a gift, I happened to be wearing a Marquette sweatshirt.

You can say that again.  The only time we had even a hint of a reason to storm the court during that era was a victory over a sub-.500 Notre Dame team.  I'll just keep telling myself that it built character because there was absolutely no other redeeming quality of that period of MU basketball.

God bless you, Fluffy and all others from that era. Most fans would have abandoned the MUBB ship long ago. Not only was basketball effed up, so was the university.

I do too. But I don’t think it gets to 32F in the OC. The mercury must have leeched out in Cheeks’ crawl space.

The thermometer has been broken since day 1, but is anchored nicely on my brick column as I exit the front door each day.

You wouldn’t have a bunch of us here to make your day Doctor if it weren’t for that time period when we were there.  ;)  ;)

It was tough, we were awfully bad, but then again I didn’t attend MU because of the basketball squad.

It was a beautiful 80 a few weeks ago.  Seeing a good friend Wednesday from the Athletic Department back in the Buzz days....looking forward to the NIT story that we turned it down, yet Buzz was campaigning for it before and after.  Should be fun.

OMG....that’s unnatural carnal knowledgeing beautiful Chico’s!

Say hello to Bill for me.  Good luck with the fly fishing.

Btw, as a reminder, I never said "MU turned it down" nor that "Buzz wanted an NIT bid". What I said was Buzz wanted to prove he could make the post-season with that crap roster until he gave up late.  And MU made it be known they didn't want a postseason bid (as Buzz was holed up in his office looking for his next job). You see the difference or is your Buzz thermometer off too?

Thank your fisherman partner for his MU service.

Let me get this straight, MU made it known they didn’t want a bid but also didn’t turn it down, but also let Buzz go on record in the Big East tournament and after that MU wanted it, and MU disappointed for not getting it...and not just Buzz, but other athletic dept officials.....LOL.

Yup, clear as mud.  Didn’t happen.

I said nothing about meeting with Bill, by the way.

You aren’t that thick, are you? Read “post-season”.  Oh wait...

Lol.  You keep changing your story.  Please lay it out clearly before Wednesday morning.

What I have in the versions so far is a letter was sent to only some alumni that everything was going to be ok.  In the letter, it didn’t come out and say directly but hinted or intimated that MU wasn’t going to the postseason because MU didn’t want to go but don’t panic.  Meanwhile, at the same time Buzz was either an idiot not to know this or fully in “I’ll show them” mode and said during Big East tournament he wanted a NIT bid....which is a postseason bid....as did the athletic dept in media articles, but secretly they didn’t and were just saying it cuz.

Then MU doesn’t get bid a few days later, Buzz goes to media disappointed, MU spokesman also confirms MU did not receive bid, but that’s because MU already let it be known we didn’t want one anyway (even though we didn’t deserve one) even though days earlier we we said publicly we would be fine with it.  Then there is the version we turned down the bid, and the even better version that we really were a NCAA tournament quality team if only for the OT losses.

Yes, I am thick...no question....my wife will confirm

We have only been there once in the last 40 years....nothing shameful about it, let alone most shameful....you just got done saying yesterday Hank had nearly everyone back and we lost an opening round game to Miami Ohio....the 2003 team earned every damn bit to get to the Final Four, knocking off two top 5 teams along the way.

losing to home to Maine in 1997 was "shameful."
blowing a double digit lead and losing to DePaul in 2010, which had lost 24 straight games, was "shameful."
losing at home to a then winless in conference DePaul team in 2015, on a three point play with 1 second left, was "shameful."
shooting 27% (19% from 3) in the 1996 NCAA tournament against a 12 seed was shameful
39 points in the Elite Eight to Syracuse was painful but it was still the Elite 8
Losing by any margin in the Final Four is still going to the Final Four.  I guess we should have let Kentucky go instead?

He is unhinged.  A complete fabrication?  Not one word is a fabrication.

Clearly he has shown himself a bigot from his comments.  It absolutely is a sketch of my wife and I when we were 18 at McCormick when she visited, more than a decade before we actually got married.  That’s why the sketch was done many years later as a fun look back on how life turned out.  2019 and the guy is making LGBTQ remarks.  Sad.

Two dudes?  One in a woman’s sweater with shoulder length hair and a heart pendant?  Good grief.  I’d post the whole thing but some of the aholes here I wouldn’t trust what they would do with it, starting with him.

Hey, can you explain what Montana trip you are talking about?  I never said I was going to Montana on a trip, that was Dr. Blackheart, who also erroneously said I was meeting with someone I wasn’t.

But go ahead, explain what Montana trip you are talking about.  I’ve mentioned retirement there in the future, but that isn’t what you are referencing.  Please, back up your comments since you said it was all a fabrication and the facts are I didn’t say who I was meeting with or where, sounds like the fabrication is with you.

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of Dental Floss Raisin' it up
Waxen it down
In a little white box
I can sell uptown
By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
For somebody else...
but then, on the other hand
I'd Keep the wax N' melt it down
Pluck some Floss N' swish it aroun'
I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top
Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a Dental Floss tycoon
(yes I am)
Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune
I'm pluckin' the ol' Dennil Floss
That's growin' on the prairie
Pluckin' the floss!
I plucked all day an' all night an' all Afternoon...
I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss
(His name is MIGHTY LITTLE)
He's a good hoss
Even though He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
Any way I'm pluckin' the ol' Dennil Floss
Even if you think it is a little silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I'm gonna find me a horse
Just about this big
An' ride him all along the border line
With a Pair of heavy-duty
Zircon-encrusted tweezers in my hand
Every other wrangler would say
I was mighty grand
By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss
But I'd be raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely Dental Floss
Well I might Ride along the border
With my tweezers gleamin'
In the moon-lighty night
And then I'd Get a cuppa cawfee
N' give my foot a push...
Just me 'n the pymgy pony
Over the Dennil Floss Bush
N' then I might just Jumb back on
An' ride Like a cowboy
Into the dawn to Montana
Movin' to Montana soon
