Feeling blessed by his Jesuit experience, alumnus Ike Eke ā€˜17, wanted to pay it forward. Using his own savings, he had a basketball court built for the young men in Enugu, Nigeria. He also brought them basketball shoes! Ike is just one example of a UDJ Man for Others. @ike_eke

thats cool. whats most amazing is that a college student had the kind of money to pour a concrete basketball court. I didnt have enough money to buy chalk to draw the lines at his age.

Stories like that buttress the notion that part of Wojos white paper is recruiting young men of character who will positively represent Marquette.

You get quite a bit when you dont have to pay for anything while in college.

Marquette players receive $5,000 stipends per year for "full cost of attendance". Thats $5000 more then any other person receives at Marquette. That is on top of zero tuition and zero housing and board.

Sure ... And most scholarship athletes at most schools use this money for charitable deeds.

Can't believe that even in a thread like this there are folks who want to piss on cornflakes.

Oh wait ... I'm not new here so I can believe it.

Hmmmm? Someone replied that he couldn't imagine how someone in college could afford to pay for this. I told him how it was possible. No one is "pissing in anyone's cornflakes" you just failed to comprehend/read the full thread.

What is the cost of building a court in his homeland?  Iā€™m guessing very light compared to what it would cost in the States.

You had a really crappy job. Did much better '79-'83 working for MU. Stop complaining and all self pity. Lot of sorry a$$ people here.

Just in case a month is 4.33 weeks not 4. That 1/3 makes a difference. 52/12 weeks/months

ROFL!!!

There's a pretty big difference between 1980 and 2016. Since you don't seem aware let's go over it.

I worked at Amazon for 12 dollars an hour. In the higher tier for college work honestly. I worked ~25 hours a week. So 300 a week (pre tax) so keeping it simple ~1200 a month.

Tuiton was 7k a semester. This does not include books, or living expenses. So 14k a year not including summers or winterim.

I'll keep it simple and say books cost 500. It's definitely more then that in most cases. Usually by another digit.

I'll again go easy and put up the cheapest rent I ever had. 400 per month in a 5 bedroom with 4 friends. Utilities averaged 50 per month. Again pretty cheap.

So without food, gas, car payment, insurance, or any entertainment of any kind we come to a grand total of expenses in a single year to: 20,400.

I made a total income of: 14,400

So total "revenue": - 6000.

And that is assuming I am a superhuman who needs no food, no insurance, I fly to school and work on my own power, and I entertained myself with a chip, used napkin, and penny. All while assuming uncle Sam has gone nuts and took none of my income.

So we have a grand total of: - 16.43 dollars per day. Shiiiiiiiiiiiit

Edit: and that is some pretty conservative estimates there. With a lot of leeway. Imagine if I took a realistic look at that.

TL;DR

And congratulations. You've made a thread about Eke's positive contributions all about yourself. Well done.

Have I though? I replied to a poster who said he couldn't imagine how eke had the money to provide for the new court. I posted with the information on how he had the funds. Then 3 other posters (1 who apologized) ran with a totally different idea because they didnt read the posts. Now 1 of those posters is replying more like a 7 year old then a Marquette grad eh?

Just because you didn't get there alone doesn't change that this bus is well off course.
