Title: US Open 2019
Post by: ChitownSpaceForRent on June 08, 2019, 09:16:08 PM
The players complaining about the conditions of the course are happening early and often.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2019/06/07/the-us-open-complaints-at-pebble-beach-are-starting-early/amp/

I personally love it. I enjoy seeing low (high?) scoring majors where a -2 may win you a title.

At a place like Erin Hills, great. However, this isn’t how Pebble is/should be played. It removes all width, angles and alternate strategy.

Another driver, wedge major ahead this week.

I don’t care for the complaining, but the USGA deserves no leeway. They also cut the rough after the complaining at Erin Hills, so players no these videos work.

I am not a big golf guy, but it seems very unimaginative for the USGA to simply grow a lot of rough and cut the greens razor thin to make the course more difficult.  Sure that makes it harder, but is it really better golf?

Golf Channel has been following Tiger on his practice round today.  He looks very scientific in his approach. I think he will be there with the Trophy at the end. I think Tiger will hit the three wood and  utilize his great irons and short game. Course is par 71 7075 yards according to announcers.

As I posted in the first 2019 US Open golf thread, Phil for the career slam.

i put together a stud line up for my draft kings contests this week!  not giving the whole thing away yet, but i think jordie is finding his chit again.  he's driving with confidence and that is setting up his short game.  as long as he puts himself in position for his approach shots, he will be hard to beat.

rickie fowler is disappointed in his game and the fact that he's one of the best to NOT have won a major, he will be in a zone

patrick reed is a pit bull.  he's going to play this one like he does the ryder cup when paired with jordie

speakin of ryder cups, keegan keagan keegan is trying to regain 2012 form

if i gave you my final 2 picks, i'd have to harm you

$50 worth of contests to win $300k of prizes-weekend of golf-the most fun ya can have with your clothes on

Based on my observation so far, all the experts are working so hard to pick anybody but Koepka that the two-time defending champion is almost being overlooked.

So I'll go wild and say Koepka.

But I do thank 9-9-9 for his consistency.

I really liked Koepka's hat on Thursday.   It got me thinking about how much I would love a MU hat featuring some of the color combinations from the MU uniforms and the jumpman themes.     Last year's white/gray uniform pattern with just a splash of Blue and Gold and a MU logo with the a tiny Jumpman.    Yes, please.

Agreed. Great hat. Also love the Puma stars & stripes hat, sucker for that.

MU hats have been pretty horrific as of late. Still searching for the UA golf hat with the monogram on the side, it's a holy grail.

Well, we can turn this into a rehash of former conversations about how far short MU paraphernalia falls in comparison to other schools.   Part of it, of course, is the big state school vs small private school conundrum.     But, yes, I would love a little more effort put into MU hats, as well as the rest of the swag line.

If we’re talking about fashion, big fan of Aaron Wise’s outfit today.

Love the oversized sweater while golfing.

Tiger even after wasting many opportunities. 7 strokes back, maybe more. Herman, what’s his smooth path to victory?

Enjoyed Patrick Reed's tantrum on 18. Good meltdown.

If Rory could hit full wedge shots, he would be leading this. He should be killing the par 5s.

Yep. I think he's +2 or +3 on the par 5s, should be 3 or 4 under.

The caddy having the next wedge ready for him to go in half a second was great....like he has seen this before .

Y'all just wait ...

When Tiger gets going on his epic comeback, the 26 guys in front of him -- including most of the best golfers in the world -- will wilt as the master imposes his will on them.

Then, after Tiger wins this, he will go on to capture titles at every major he enters until he's 55 years old. That year, he'll only win 3 of the 4 -- his first "slump" in a dozen years.

Tiger needs to post 63 early which could possibly get him into a playoff . Johnny Miller did it in 73 so it’s possible.Absent that I think he is out of it as there are too many quality  people in front of him.

Tiger just needs to post the best score of the weekend by 2 strokes, have the 2 leaders drop 2-3 strokes, and not of the guys at -7 to play well. Easy peasy.

Like I’ve said before, Fowler is Phil 2.0. He’s still young by golf standards. He’s too good to not put together a good Sat-Sun at a major one of these years

Or he could go +2 on the front 9 and say, "See you in Ireland."

Obviously he'll win there, and everywhere else he plays for the next 10 years. For he is Tiger and the rest of the golfers obviously are scared to death of him.

I do think that of the majors going forward, he has the best chance at The Open just because the courses tend to play shorter and links golf may be better suited for him at this point in the career.

Now with that being said, he probably wont win but of all the majors thats probably the best bet.

Better bet than the Masters? I think he won it 2 short months ago.

So Tiger shot 69 . I guess it is on to the Open championship for him.

In the meantime, this is a very good US Open. Was too bad Adam Scott just hit one OB . He looked in position position to post a low score.

Woodland is a good guy and seems to be hanging in there so far. Lots of quality guys in the mix though.  Will be fun to see how they all navigate the back nine.

Perhaps, but after the Masters there actually was (ridiculous) talk of him winning the effen grand slam because of how much he knows and loves Bethpage and Pebble.

The other golfers are better than him, younger than him, healthier than him, just as hungry as him and not the least bit intimidated by him.

That all makes his Masters win all the more impressive, but I think it's silly for folks to actually expect him to beat the field in these events. (Not saying that's you, Chitown.)

Lost in the exciting Woodland/Koepka battle was Tiger's amazing finish. He was 4 over Sunday through the first 6 holes (the "easy" part of the course), 6 under on the final 12. Remarkable.
