You bet I'm bringing this up with my Blue Rat buddies!

I think this move might help them not lose any of their Incoming Recruits.

I don't know about this.  They are putting their first non-losing season since 2006-7 at risk with this tournament.

The 2010 CBI final was VCU against SLU. VCU went to the Final Four the next year and SLU ended up winning the A10 2 years later and going on a nice little run. Other winners include Oregon in 2012 and Nevada in 2017 For a program like DePaul it can be a springboard to more success. Not a bad move on their part.

Though, participants have to pay the CBI $50,000 for an entry fee.    ;)

That's what I took from it. And...VCU's coach was Shaka. It all makes sense now.

I thought there was a rumor that maybe $200,000 might be laying somewhere around.

Here's a thought, if Shaka gets canned from Texas next year could he possibly be on the DePaul radar?

So every school/team in the Big East is playing in post season (4 NCAA, 5 NIT, 1 CBI).

Anyone know how unusual it is for a conference to have 100% playing in some post season tournament?

CBI Finals ....

Depaul tied South Florida at 1 game each ( the CBI finals is the best of three games)

The deciding game is Friday night at Depaul (in Lincoln Park, Wintrust is booked).

Depaul is 19-16, a win Friday and they have their first 20 win season in who knows how long.

Go Blue Demons ... very happy for them.

Will the rest of the BE be getting CBI shares to make up for all the years that DU has lived on the conferences riches?

Yep, each team needs to pay $12k each now instead of 8 because it went to 3 games instead of two.

I was going to give the good doctor (Blackheart) a +1 on his post, but this one topped it.  Well played WarriorFan!

Very happy to see DePaul have the 20 WIN opportunity.  The question I have is if their arena is sold out, does that outweigh the cost of the CBI?

There's something intangible for depaul about winning Friday. It'll help instill a winning culture there for the young players and even the incoming recruits. It's not much but it's something that leitao can use to say "see we can do it. Let's take it to the next level"

Spot on, Galway!  It's good for the entire conference.  How many other conferences have a 20 game winner at the 10th spot, let alone the last spot?  That says something about the competition level of an entire conference.  That's always been the biggest attraction to the Big East for most recruits - High level every game.

Is that a high school gym that they are playing in? Do they play any regular season games in that place?
Yikes!

That is where the women's team plays. DePaul men's team used to play one game per year at Alumni Hall.

20 wins is a big deal? They will have played 36 games. I am happy to see a better DePaul, but a stretch on celebrating 20 wins, IMO.

Come on goose this isn't Marquette here. For a depaul program that had one ok season since 2004 it's about little victories.

To be fair, Alumni Hall's capacity was larger--about 5000.  McGrath-Phillips Arena seats only about 3000.

Does the CBI really deserve a championship series? How many people want to watch DePaul play South Florida three times? The announced attendance for the second game -- played in Chicago, with a metro population of more than 9 million people -- was just 1,704.

At least DePaul is making men's basketball somewhat of a priority, and is trying to become relevant again.

That's a 10x increase from their regular season attendance

Every journey starts with a first step.  One of those first steps for DePaul is winning tomorrow.

I said I am happy to see improved DePaul program. Just said the celebration for 20 is a bit tarnished with number of games played.

Agreed. Instead of looking at 20 wins as a baseline, maybe now we should look at seasons with single-digit losses as a measuring stick. Winning 20 games these days when you're 20-15 doesn't mean as much as winning 20 by going 20-5.

Any season that ends with 9 or fewer losses is pretty good. Only a handful of teams do that in a given year, and even fewer do it in a major conference.

Yes, but you even have to take the number of losses with a grain of salt. I'm much more impressed with an 18-10 team in the ACC than a 21-7 team in the Horizon.

I treat scoring records the same way.  When you think about what George Thompson did in three years, with no shot clock and no three-point line and fewer games in a season (29) it is damn impressive.  Only three players have passed him, two, Jerel and Lazar, who needed four years, and Markus who did it in three.

That's true. But:
1) we don't play in the Horizon, so for our purposes I think it works; and

2) I think that most Horizon teams would likely call that year a success, don't you? And I don't think that ACC team would be all that impressed with the 18 - 10 year, so I think it works either way.

Two ways to look at it.

18-10 with a 14-4 conference record or 18-10 with a 9-9 conference record (basically St. John's this past season).  I'd rather have the better conference record.

Agreed. So shouldn't the record really be on a ppg basis? And there would need to be categories for pre shot clock and pre 3 point

I suppose. Either way, 18-10 isn't a record I think most of Scoop would consider successful, so it doesn't necessarily apply to my test.

(It also seems to be too few total games for the current schedule.)

Yes, but even within many conferences, the value of a given record varies from year to year. In the BE, a record of 18-10 would've been pretty decent in recent years, but not so much this season.
