Title: If Sam's shot had not counted
Post by: tower912 on January 10, 2019, 12:08:28 PM
1.  Would you think the refs made the right call?
2.  Would you think that Wojo was an idiot?
3.   What kind of mood would you be in today?

Same.  Expected yesterday to be a narrow loss, but was a narrow win.

Not the same. I was fine with a loss last night so I wouldn't have taken it too poorly, but I'm elated today! Didn't get much sleep and my mood is still through the roof.

Probably would be way more productive at work instead of watching highlights for the 10000th time

1. Yes
2. No
3.  Same as normal.  Wouldn't be thinking about it much.  I am much happier today than I would have been had the shot not counted.

Concerned we still hadn't won a road game

Also, Tower, Did you have a write up ready to go for the loss? If so, what did it say?

1. No, after seeing replay it looked good out of his hand. I think it was objectively correct.
2. No, why ask this question?...there seems to be an ongoing thot from a few people that a significant number of scoopers irrationally criticize Wojo. Most criticism of Wojo I see is measured...and plenty of compliments.   “Fire Wojo” Straw man again.
3. Sure mood different. Exhilarating win verse a close loss. I can’t see a real fan having the same response win or lose especially like that.

1. Yes
2. No
3. I was happy we won but resigned to losing. I did not think we could come back down by five in the closing seconds of regulation. Had we lost I would be concerned this team will really struggle on the road. Huge win for the team.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Worse, obviously. If your mood is the exact same after a huge win vs a heartbreaking loss, why are you even a fan?

3.   What kind of mood would you be in today?

1. No, only reason being is it was called good on the court and I didn't see conclusive evidence to overturn it.
2. No.
3. Slightly worse.

1. It depends. I think whatever the call on the floor was had to stand. Had they said no shot and not overturned it, so be it. But if they used the monitor to overturn the call they actually made on the floor I wouldn't agree.

2. No, I had already said on Twitter that no matter the result, his coaching had turned the game and given us a chance. Very well coached game.

3. Not as good. Not just the exuberance of the shot, but all the ramifications. We got to see delightful overtime Markus. Our Big East title & NCAA hopes are significantly better. I'm not as on the ledge as guru, but these results have more sway over my mood than any other team by far. Sam definitely put an extra spring in my step today.

1. Yes, i think the refs got it wrong but too close to over turn.

2.  I have not been overly critical of wojo. I thought his coaching job of our tourney team was excellent, people were bitching we underacheived that season i think we over acheived. I think he has done a good job, just need to keep upgradingbthe talent and his coaching “ability” will get better.

3.  Not much different but agree with the replays, articles, productivity , eyc

1. Yes. The refs did not have enough information in the video they had to overturn the call on the floor. It would have been the wrong call but I would have understood.

2. Yes. The team is 13-0 this year if you don't count Wojo's 3 losses. Fire Wojo.

3. Good. I had already come to terms with losing that game. Creighton kept hitting shots. I was shocked when it went to OT. I would have been fine today knowing that Creighton had a hot shooting night.

1.  Yes.  Focusing on the initial call, not the decision on replay.  I think the shot was a fraction of a second late.  But I don't think there was conclusive evidence to justify changing the call.
2.  No.
3.  My mood would be pretty much normal with a low-level disappointment that we'd lost another one on the road.  As opposed to the current state of semi-elation and lingering disbelief.

I will add that on item #3 i was initially disappointed with our defense but the last 28 minutes of regulation our defense was really really good.  apart from a 49% fter going 13-14 and them banking in two threes MUs defense would have carried the day to a really nice road victory.  So even if we had not won, what i witnessed over the last 75% of the game gave me confidence that we could play good defense on the road and we were trending upwards!!

1. Yes. I mean no.  I will swear on a stack of religious documents of my choice that ball was in mid-air when the horn sounded. From the deflated sound in the arena, others believed the same.
2. Of course not. It was all about Markus’s turnovers.
3.  Really Grumpy. And avoiding Scoop.

No, we all know it's physically impossible to answer in less than .09.

1. I thought it was late, so I would not of complained.
2. The play call was a good one. However, I do not think Wojo was planning on the shot taking so long. Sam had to catch and gather himself before he shot it. I also believe Sam is our most clutch player, so I would generally pick him to take the last shot.
3. I feel to good about how we won that game. I would not have been down about the loss, but I would not of been on the high I have been on all day.

Yes. After watching the 1000 replays, I had convinced myself that the ball was still touching Sam's fingertips when the red light came on. I was surprised (and elated, of course) that the shot counted.

No, because I know he's not.

I'd have been a hell of a lot more productive over the next 24 hours if the shot had missed! I was obsessed with watching replays, talking about it, etc. And that's pretty rare for me; it was just such a unique situation.

My HS team's head coach and other assistant hadn't seen it, so after our practice yesterday I showed them the Youtube highlight film. They were both in awe of Markus, and amazed by Sam's shot. Unfortunately, the highlights didn't include Creighton's boneheaded pass, so I had to draw it up for them on the whiteboard. My coach's reaction: "Damn! That's some terrible coaching!"

Not sure if I answered about the mood I'd have been in or not, but that's enough dribble from moi.

McDermott has been roasted on Creighton message boards and Twitter. I think it's overblown. Anyone puts a finger on that ball and the game is over. The full court throw out of bounds barely ever happens (can anyone remember the last time they saw that?). It was just the middle of a perfect storm punctuated by Sam's bolt from the blue.

Glow and I have been wracking our brains, but we are sure we saw it very early this season. We just can't remember who was playing.  I want to say it was over Thanksgiving.

1. Yes - But very disappointed after first calling it good.  I am pretty sure the "Sh_t" word would of came out of my mouth.
2. No - It is apparent Wojo is going to live and die with Markus Howard's shot.  It is his career that is riding on it.  He knows the team better than anyone.
3. Any time the team plays their heart out and loses, I probably feel worst for the team.  I would only been concerned that we would be now W1 and L2 and Nova is W3 L0.  Hence for being a pre-conference title contender it would start to look disappointing.  But at W2 L1 the hunt for conference championship looks much better.

1.  Yes.  The ball is moving up AND forward.  Only a side view (which there were none) can reveal if his hand is actually still touching.  Everyone is focused on the up vs. forward.  Non-conclusive = The call on the floor stands.  Brave call by the refs, but the one they had to make.

2.  I'm not doubting Wojo in the long run yet.  MU is a lot better off with him coaching than me!

3.  I'm with MU82 on this.  My productivity really suffered the next day showing people re-runs.  LOL.

BEAT SETON HALL!
