Yeah. That’s not great.

Was this the other shoe to drop that ‘not Chico’s’ always talks about?
-
MU82 brought it up days ago. That newsman instinct is still intact.

Glad to hear this, of course.

I dunno about that, but I saw it in like the 50th paragraph of an article on UNC's situation and had to do the old double-take!

So the MU Track team gets the hit then;)

The two shoes that were mentioned on the site were Air Jordan XXXI Lows which were issued to the team but were also made available to the public (I have a pair).
The second pair is the Air Jordan IVs which has been dubbed as the "Marquette" or "Cal" PE (player exclusives). Couple things to note about this shoe. This shoe came out with very limited release back in 2013 (no current player would have been on the roster). It was given the name "Marquette/Cal" simply due to the color scheme and the fact it followed Air Jordan IV releases for Oregon and Georgetown which featured specific logos/branding associated with the schools.
Jordan IV "Marquette": https://sneakernews.com/2013/07/03/marquette-air-jordan-iv/
Jordan IV Oregon: https://stockx.com/jordan-4-retro-oregon-ducks
Jordan IV Georgetown: https://www.flightclub.com/air-jordan-4-retro-lt-graphite-white-midnight-navy-802425
BTW the Cal/Marquette colorway is often faked:

Yeah. That’s not great.
Eh.

We finally get to be part of a scandal and it's for lame shoe selling?
-
Wojo better throw this in the PowerPoint going forward.
“You will be at 1 of 4 schools that Jordan brand gives exclusive shoes that only you and the people in this program get. Look at the demand for them, people would pay over $3K for shoes that you’ll be getting for free. Only for you to wear.”

We were involved in some things, but most of the younger fans don't remember.
Al pissed off the NCAA a few times and they had investigators crawling all over campus.
There was also a FBI investigation regarding Al and his brother, who was a notorious gambler regarding fixing of games. No one seems to talk about that, but thankfully Coach Al was not involved. One of his brothers had some serious gambling issues.

I believe it's at least addressed in Dick Enberg's McGuire one-man show.

It did two separate runs last year for the 100th of Marquette Basketball. No idea when it will be back. I would guess it will probably be years before we see it again. With Dick Enberg having passed, it may be less likely to see it get another run.
-
Not a big deal even if a current player sold them. Might be suspended by the NCAA for one game. No problems for the school.

Yep.
-

Did the recipient of the pass make the layup at least?
-
I'm very unawares of the finer points of these shoe deals, but creating "player exclusive" models, and then expecting this not to happen, seems very very stupid.

I am not so sure about that. The play would have been part of his estate. Why wouldn't his heirs want the play to be seen? My guess is that they have someone managing all of his intellectual property, including books he has written and use of his likeness. If someone wants to produce this play, I don't know why it wouldn't happen.

It made sense to release it when it was written and again for the 100th. I love the play, but it's not something like Hamilton that will sell out regardless. It has a niche audience that will probably come out once every 5-10 years to see it. Unless we win a national championship, I'd put the over/under at 7.5 years, and personally I'd bet the over. I would be happy to be wrong about that, but I'm not sure the managers of his estate will have the same personal connection to making sure McGuire gets the occasional run that the author would have.

Probably had less to do with anything Al or our guys did.
Instead the investigation probably had more to do with Adolph the Bigot Rupp down at the University of Kentucky not liking having his a*s handed to him by Al and his integrated basketball team.

I say, 'no harm no foul'! Call the police! This is chicken crap.
Just win, baby!
