I'm not part of the early group but I saw the link on gomarquette last night for the tickets that would be available at 4pm. I checked this morning and that link is gone. Not sure what that means.

If I can't get them at 4 maybe they'll be sold third party...?

Where did you see about the slotted windows based on points? I got the e-mail like OldGym posted above but nothing after that.

I called but couldn't get through and the ticket link is no longer showing up in My Marquette Account. I assume that my window isn't open yet.

I am willing to wager a large sum that the ticket price is going to drop significantly; there's so much spite for the NIT selection, a Wednesday game, played in a small gym against a bunch of book nerds... there's no way that the Al is going to be close to being sold out today.

The real winners are going to be those who hold off on purchasing... especially those with 0-74 priority points who don't try to buy tickets right away at 3:00pm.  IMO, 99.9% chance that if prices are going to drop, it will be at 3:10pm, in which case, that should be the point everyone jumps in to buy tix.

EDIT:  3:10pm.  That when everyone else should buy tickets.  3:10pm.

Maybe, but $15 feels like a bargain to me and I'm in that 0-74 range (49 points). I'll take whatever is available at my slot and feel like I'm getting off cheap.

It'll probably be close to a sellout due to the small stadium size, I believe you can get them in for free, however they will have to sit on your lap the entire game.

I'd signed in to the ticket portal a few minutes early and saw I could buy tickets even before my set time ..

But now that makes sense.  The lowers were all sold to the higher point total people .. so no reason not to let everyone buy the GA tickets "early" since the higher point benefit is now gone.

Well, that sucks.  Was interested in good seats.

I am still seeing a 6 ticket max.

I do wonder if the numbers on the page have anything to do with how many GA tickets have been sold.  The numbers have been going up:

Section GA5
Row G00
Seat 336 - 339

.. So maybe 336 tickets have been sold in GA?  If so .. long way to the ~2400 GA seats.

I don't think row or seat number matters for GA tickets.  Maybe the section (GA5 and GA6 were my two "options") matters, but hey, any seat in the Al is going to be better than what us peasants have access to at the BC.

I'm fine with STH's scalping to brokers for regular season games or anything at the BC.  Not for post-season or anything at the Al, however.  At most, you should only be able to buy as many seats as you had season tickets on the year.  Sweater Vest Wilbur and his wife Gretel shouldn't be able to buy 8 tickets for all their "friends and well-wishers" if they only had 2 tickets on the year... I don't care if they were sitting in Section 200, courtside, or on Joey's lap.  What high-$ donor is going to be pissed that he/she couldn't get 8 tickets when they only had 2 season tickets?

I can't imagine that someone who shells out 5 figures for season tickets every season is going to bother loading up on extra NIT tickets so that he can score a $50 profit on Stubhub. My guess is that those of you who blame that for the early sellout are wrong.

And if they bought a couple extra to take a grandkid or friend, more power to them. That's a pretty minor perk in my book. Why shouldn't a strong, consistent supporter be able to do that?

They're already getting first crack at them. With reduced capacity I think there should have been a 4 per account limit.

To the ADept's credit, at least they turned off the "Resale" function on the GoMarquette account pages.  Can only print and transfer tickets.

I don't know that it was specifically to re-post the tickets on the secondary market, but if the tickets are $10/$25 a piece and you're used to paying around $50 each, a consumer - especially a deep-pocketed but cheap-at-heart sweater vest - is going to be more inclined to buy a surplus amount of tickets, even if he/she has no clear plan in mind for the extras (i.e. buy them now, figure out what to do with them later).  The very limited window to buy tickets (FOMO) would also influence this.

In other words, for every 1 person who bought intending to resell for profit, there were probably 25 people buying extras with no clear intent for them.

Maybe they read all the posts on Scoop about how no one was going to show up for the game, and that even being in the NIT is a disgrace, and figured they should sell as many as they could while they had the opportunity.

Wojo wanted only the "real fans" to show up.

As to the 8, they limited the A&M game and no one bought.  They should have limited the Harvard game to 4 in retrospect but you can't blame them with the students off.  They also should upped the price though to control the supply.

That said, I grabbed six.  I should have grabbed 8 and sold them to one of you wonks for $75 each plus my seat donation.

In the defense of the ticket office, I'm sure they underestimated the interest in tickets.  Outside of the students, there appears to be about a core of 6,000 of us "die-hards" who attend about 80-90% of games.

The last NIT game drew about 4000K, too.

In terms of available venues, and any rent associated, I'm sure 4000 seats sold with no rent, is more profitable to 7000 with rent at the BC or Arena.  I just wish that allowed more of us to buy tickets.  Now, I need to work a little harder to get in.

It does seem the only mistake they made was in allowing 8 early on.  I have no problem with 'cheap' and I really don't have a problem with all the tickets being consumed by STH.  But when a significant number of STHs were shut out because high B&G point holders could buy more than their existing package by a significant amount, that's a bit of a miscalculation.  I suspect they will tweak for Round #2.

Unless the system allowed them to split the seats by just selecting any 8 that were available. Then he may be sitting somewhere else. Or worse, maybe he just bought tickets to resell, and isn't even going to the game.

In any event, it's really sad.

MU’s limit was 6 when I got in, probably should have been limit 4.  Not the end of the world.

This is a simple supply vs demand equation. Do people really believe 20-30 ga tix appearing on stubhub caused a premature sell-out of a venue of 3500... when there is a STH fanbase probably 3x that size?  I thought our fanbase was more educated and less emotional than that.

The person asking $200 a seat is obviously priced way too high (it’s the NIT), but it is what it is.  The market will dictate their sale price.  The same people asking to revoke their tix probably also sell extra Badger tickets every two years... can’t have it both ways just because you were on the other side of the coin this time.

I'm mainly upset because I love Marquette basketball and had the mobile season etickets that would change every game, but not an official season ticket holder so I had basically no chance from the getgo. Just seems that some people who exploited the 6-8 ticket limit aren't simply interested in the game itself, but also making (alot of) money on people who legitimately want to attend. You can talk down at all of us non-STH but just consider yourself lucky to be able to get tickets without forking over an arm and a leg.

Supply/demand makes sense, but this situation is sort of ridiculous. I know people are boohooing the idea of playing in a bigger venue, but I really think they would have had a good showing in the panther arena IMO, contract and availability issues aside. I'll be watching on tv at least.

Your heart’s in the right place, but the logic isn’t there to play at US Cellular.  Half the reason people want to go is because it’s a meaningful game at our small on-campus arena.

Not looking down at non-STH at all, and fairly certain the sentiment is the other way in this thread.  There’s a lot of animosity against people who donate and pay premium already for access to tickets due to the fact the game is being played at a small arena.  Can’t have your cake and eat it too.  Or use some of the extra $2k you save per year by paying secondary price for tickets.

The limit should have been based on how many season tickets you have.  If someone is willing to shell out for 8 season tickets, then by all means get 8 tickets to the NIT game.  If you only have 2 season tickets you should be limited to 2 initially, and then have the chance to pick up more when they're released to the general public.

In retrospect, yes, but given that the last two Men's games played in the Al were not sellouts, I can't say I blame the PTB for prioritizing gross sales to super-dedicated fans over relative parity.

As a rule, I am willing pay fair scalper pricing for any event I want to attend. Since giving up my STH for MU, I have overpaid for very good seats for every game I have attended, home or away. My main interest in attending the NIT was because of location and time of game. I was buyer at face value and now would only go with freebie's.

I love the nature of scalpers and people making a buck, but this is one case that I hope they get burned. In addition, if anyone pays a nickel over face, they have way too much money and should consider donating to charity before attending the game.

Again, the limit actually was 6 tix online.  I was in the earliest timeslot (9am), and it said limit 6 (I didn’t buy 6).  I know 8 tix limit was communicated, but that was not the case online.  Would love to hear of anyone being able to buy 8 tix.

For those saying that the limit should have been equalt to # of STH tix, I believe that couldn’t happen due to complexity on IT side.  I don’t think their system is currently programmed to work that way, and MU would have to create a table with everyone’s ticket limit and then have the TM system query off that.  It’s just much easier to administer online with a cap (i.e. 2, 4, or 6).

Again, the limit actually was 6 tix online.  I was in the earliest timeslot (9am), and it said limit 6 (I didn’t buy 6).  I know 8 tix limit was communicated, but that was not the case online.  Would love to hear of anyone being able to buy 8 tix.

In retrospect, yes, but given that the last two Men's games played in the Al were not sellouts, I can't say I blame the PTB for prioritizing gross sales to super-dedicated fans over relative parity.

I agree with this. But IMHO a limit of 4 tix (even if you only have 2 or 3 season tix) probably would have met the goal of selling out.  6 or 8 seems unnecessarily high...especially for someone with only 2 or 3 season tix.

The ability to buy 8 tickets did not exist. The max was 6.
Please stop saying the STHs were able to buy 8 tickets. They weren’t.

IF sticket = 4 then Nticketmax = 4
elseif sticket = 3 then Nticketmax = 3
elseif sticket = 2 then Nticketmax = 2
elseif sticket = 1 then Nticketmax = 1

Honestly its probably easier if the ticket lotto is done on html 5.

If you believe that being able to spend $120 for you and seven of your closest friends/family members can sit in great seats to watch your favorite team in a tournament, is having "way, way too much money" you are the one with the issues, my friend.   ;)

How about if they have a family of four and four friends at $15/10 per ticket is pretty cheap.  ;)

I applaud your popularity. I would have hard time getting seven people to attend (on my dime) the Butler game in Jan. with three weeks notice. If you can have seven close friends/family members join you for an NIT game at the girls gym on two day notice, you must be a very, very nice woman. Have to admit, I am jealous. I asked two of my son's and my wife (all MU fans) and had three "thanks, but no thanks". I actually was pleased because it saved me $150.00 at Elsa's before or after the game.

Hopefully we play Oregon and I can get another chance to try and scoop some up.

UWM Panther Arena/MECCA/US Cellular/BC Jr./small bowl full of sports stuff has a capacity of 12.7k. I would be curious what would be an acceptable minimum attendance for that venue and if a game against ORE would help? 9k? Some have said we have 7k+ STH. That's doable right?

I'm going to beat a dead horse here, but when I texted the ticket office at 10:28am yesterday asking what the ticket limit was, they replied 8. Someone in the office was obviously wrong, but that's where that number came from. I agree that after we win tomorrow night, the limit should be lowered to 4.

Not to mention extremely patronizing.

I would love to see you refer to the Al as the "girls gym"  to the women's basketball team.  You would be grateful that they are ladies, and I mean that in the manners sense.

I have been a proud supporter of the lady Warriors for over 40 years. My next door neighbor was women's coach, AD and volleyball coach for many years. I worked the scoreboard and did audio for women's games for several years. In addition, my daughter played on the MU women's soccer team. For the record, the girl's gym is actually a family joke with my daughter.

I can assure you, if I am going to patronize, it sure as hell would be something bigger than calling The Al a girl's gym.

Thanks.  What I remember is that they added some seats at places where the row was no longer needed and access could be provided another way. What I also seem to remember is that those new seats were a red cloth in contrast to the 'pleather' seats that remained.  Obviously that's all been redone in the decades since.

From the ticket office:

MU Set To Host NIT Game
#MUBB vs. Harvard
Wednesday, March 14 - 6:00 p.m. CT
Al McGuire Center

We encourage you to arrive early to tomorrow’s game as parking will be limited in and around campus. We expect the lines to be long to enter the parking garage for those arriving shortly before game time. In advance of the game we wanted to provide you a few details to ensure your game day experience is a great one!

Where: Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St.
When: Game tips at 6 p.m.  Doors open to the arena at 5 p.m.
Tickets: Please have your tickets printed before you arrive and have them out ready to scan as you enter the arena.
Parking: Parking is available on a first come, first served basis for $10 cash per car in the Wells Street Parking Structure located at 1240 W. Wells St. Access into the structure is available via the entrances at both Wells and Kilbourn Streets. Cash is the only accepted method of payment in the Wells Street Parking Structure for this event. We also would encourage carpooling to the game or utilizing shared ride services such as Uber.

I searched on bing and 12.7k was the first thing to come up but that's probably max capacity then given all the other links posted.

With under 11k for basketball games I'm even more convinced that this is the best venue for a game against Oregon. Don't understand why people are "surprised" that the Harvard game was a sellout. Just don't get it. Tournament bball is tournament bball and people show up.

Yep. We've had some really nice years under KO, TC and Buzz, but it was simply a different level under Al.

Remembering Owens give the official attendance wasn't that hard given that it was the same (sellout) game after game after game. When he would start to make the announcement, my brothers and I would actually announce the number with him. Guess that's part of the reason the various capacities have stuck with me for all those years.

I'd have to guess the exact capacity of the BMO.  Closest I can get without looking is that it's closer to 19K than 18K. And I have no clue if it has changed over the years.
