Title: Non-Big East NCAA Basketball Games
Post by: TAMU, Knower of Ball on November 10, 2017, 07:51:27 PM
Thought we could use a thread on other major games going around the NCAA. I watched my (very distant) 2nd favorite team demolish Huggy Bear and the Mountaineers in Germany. Their possible starting PG (JJ Caldwell) and future 1st round NBA draft pick (Robert Williams) were both suspended. Didn't matter, they still beat a top 15 team by 23. I thought TAMU was overrated going into the season but I might be proven wrong.

Duane looked about the same as he did last season. Still plays with lot of heart and an outside shot that is off. He did have one impressive block, he made up what seemed like an impossible amount of space and skied to deny an open three point look. Very athletic play. Not on the level of the D James block but it still made me nod and say "I see you Duane."

I like that Duane is getting a chance to start for Texas A and M, while the other guy is suspended. I think he will be able to solidify his minutes on the team. We know all his pros and cons and I don't think much will change either way, other than the general direction of his health. If he is healthy we will see some of the flash and promise Duane had, like the block TAMU observed. I am rooting for A and M to do well this year. Would be great for Duane to get to another NCAA game.

I'm sure no one else is watching it, but Montana at Penn State is a hell of a game. I tuned in to watch Ahmaad Rorie, a redshirt junior for Montana that could be a grad transfer target. He's not disappointing. Can get out in transition, shoot from outside, dish, he's a quality player. Originally an Oregon recruit.

Also watching Lamar Stevens, who had us as a finalist before picking Penn State. Would've been a hell of a pickup. Kid is a load physically, good rebounder and post scorer that plays unselfish ball.

I'd be down with Rorie.

The way you described Stevens is what I am expecting out of Morrow.

Markus’s brother Jordan went OFF tonight against UCLA. 35 points and basically kept them in the game. Sure they were down starters, but it’s still ranked UCLA at Pauley as 28 point dogs. Pretty impressive

Lots of typically good teams/NCAA hopefuls struggling early.

Iowa State lost to Milwaukee
Dayton lost to Hofstra
Virginia Tech lost to SLU
Missouri got smoked by Utah
South Carolina lost to Illinois State (this is a little bit less bad, ISU is pretty good)
UCLA needed OT to beat Central Arkansas at home
Wake Forest lost to Liberty and Georgia Southern
Stanford lost at home to Eastern Washington

Puts our loss to Purdue in perspective a little bit.

Illinois State lost 4 starters IIRC. That's a bad loss for the cocks

And tonight Milwaukee is getting the crap kicked out of them by Concordia.

Wake is really really bad.  Now 0-3, all losses against cupcakes.

While he's no Kostas, McKinley Wright had a helluva game for Colorado today. Was kinda hoping MU would pursue in earnest when he re-opened.

Too late to retroactively give John Collins NCAA POY for last year?

Duane scores 22 with 6 assists against Penn State to lead Texas A &M to Legends Classic Championship win in Brooklyn. Duane is now the first player to have won a Legends Classic with two teams .

I doubt you know that for a fact but I enjoyed it anyways. Good for Duane. I'm cheering for him.

Duane continues to do well for Texas A and M. The team is short on players due to suspensions and he had a 23 point 11 assist and 4 boards in the win over Jeenathan Williams future team , Buffalo .  Rooting hard for Duane.

Sandy Cohen averaging 14.5 Ppg 4.5 boards and 2 assists so far for Green Bay. Nice to see things working for the Chief.

Watching TX Tech vs. Okla.  Clearly Trae Young is an incredible talent but when he drives to the left and sticks out the right arm, is that not a foul?  He's not hooking with it but clearly using it to prevent the defender from freely moving.

Michigan State needed OT to beat Rutgers....at home.

More proof that good teams have bad games, bad teams have good games, and no win against a high major team should ever be taken for granted.

Excellent post.

I watched the end of an entertaining TCU-Texas game last night. TCU had a wide-open layup to win it at the double-OT buzzer ... a missed it. Good win for Shaka's lads, especially given the sad news about Andrew Jones.

That was an awesome game to watch. Couldn't believe that they missed that last layup. The Texas defender looked like he tried to get out of the way the defense was so bad. Didn't matter, it just rimmed out

Arizona State loses to a meh Oregon team at home. After tearing through non-conference play they are 1-3 in a very meh Pac 12. Will be interesting to see if Hurley rights the ship. His three best players are seniors so it might take awhile for them to have this good of a shot in the next couple of years if they don't get it done this year.

Duane was back in the line up today for Texas A and M. He came off the bench and was wearing a knee brace. He had been out for several games. TAMU lost a tough road game to Tennessee but Duane played hard down the stretch. Showed the same stones he used to for us.

Swaggy Du back in the starting line up for Texas A and M. Exciting Finish and the Aggies get their first SEC win. Way to go Duane.
