Interesting. Does this change anything against Lindenwood or NW?
-
Nope....they got a waiver because all proceeds going to charity

My daughter goes to Mizzou, and they are doing the same thing with Kansas.
-
Once again... no tv or online stream for us out of towners!
I cannot believe MUTV couldn not get a stream together for this event. I’m hoping it’s NCAA limited and not just MU choosing not to.

Missouri got Kansas and we got stuck with UWM? Who failed to pick up the phone to call ND?

Fairly sure it’s an NCAA thing. I heard the cheerleaders and bands were prohibited by the NCAA at the Mizzou-KU game...so I’ll bet it won’t be on TV either.

Regardless of whether it’s an NCAA thing or not, the point is to raise money for hurricane relief aid. If you steam it online some people will stay home and just watch it that way. If you want it streamed, and it’s not against NCAA rules, shoot an email to the ADs involved and see if they can put together a stream available for $10 with those proceeds also going to the cause.

I'd gladly pay $10 to charity to see a stream. Heck, I'd pay $20.
-
Love it!
-
Great idea to do this, and very cool to make it a Milwaukee game.
I want a stream!!!! I'll pay!
-
QG should still be in town for this right? I hope it makes our visit truly stand out
-
Grimes will (most likely) he gowne by then.
People who can’t make it and want to pay for a stream should seriously email the MU and UWM ADs. Can’t hurt. My guess is the NCAA doesn’t allow it but you never know.
-
Very cool to see. Wouldn't mind charity games become an annual thing.
-
An extra scrimmage can only help the young guys develop. And ostensibly doing it for a noble cause. Unless there is some season ending injury, there is no downside.
-
QG should still be in town for this right? I hope it makes our visit truly stand out
The clock on official visits starts the second you arrive on campus and ends 48 hours later. Grimes could stay if he wanted to, but I think he would have to pay for his own hotel Saturday night, not have any contact with the coaches, pay for his own tickets, and might even need to pay for his own flight back, not sure on that last one.
-
Gonna help da old seed line, hey?
-
Verified that the Mizzou-KU game won't be televised or streamed either, but both schools will be doing radio broadcasts. If they aren't televising or streaming that one (likely to sell out the Sprint Center in KC), it must be an NCAA thing....

Great cause and great reason.
That said, has college basketball opened up a new avenue to "sneak in" another exhibition game every year (or almost every year)? Always natural disaster to give a reason for this. This year was multiple hurricanes.
2016 Hurricane Mathew damaged Haiti to the same extent that Maria damaged Purto Rico.
2015 Oklahoma had record flooding
Could go on and on with examples.

It could be a slippery slope, but I could also distinguish this year from most years past on the basis of scale. You compared Matthew to Maria, but even if they were relatively equivalent, this year we've also had Harvey and Irma.
Who knows? Maybe it turns into a regular thing, but I could also see reasons for treating this year as an exception...unless hurricanes continue to increase in frequency and intensity.

I especially like that it's in the AL. Chick and I had a great time at that add-on game a couple years ago.

How about MU helping out one of our basketball legends who is doing great work in PR?

Puerto Rico is America; Haiti is not.
So?
I don't get Heisey's point anyway, but people who need help are people who need help right?
-
All I'm saying is the NCAA made an exception and has allowed several teams to hold an exhibition game this weekend.
Coaches want more exhibition games. That is their preference. So has the precedent been set so they can have an extra game every year (or nearly every year)?
It is neither bad or good, just making an observation, that not cynical or whatever is in "News- Grimes dreams MU" warped interpretation ... he has no idea what he is talking about. I'll just leave it at that...
-
Have the stars aligned yet?
Negative
MU athletics not interested in pursuing any sort of stream option, sadly, though most everything else was in place.
Was a good plan that had buy in from academics at both schools plus a local TV outlet to supply student talent and a production resource.
Got final word from my Warrior Media contact this am.
We gave it our best shot.

I think this is probably because people didn’t get the email. Neither I nor my seat mate got an email. He got one forwarded to him, only reason we found out about the presale (wasn’t on scoop today). Pretty disappointing the email system failed.

. Mine went to my "promotions" folder in my Gmail account, not my main one. I don't think that is the ticket office's fault. I marked the email address so that this won't happen anymore going forward.
-
Who will be able to play in this game for MU? Is Froling allowed to play? How about Morrow? And of course there is the preseason "suspension" of Rowsey. If all those guys are out UWM might have a real shot this early in practice.
-

Not in my case. I got an email that said "season ticket holders will receive an email with ticket order details in advance of availability to the general public." but never received said email. Not a huge deal, ended up with decent tickets still, just frustrating.

Should be a no go on Froling or Morrow. It'll top the supposed win over the MU Dental School in the 1930's as their most legitimate win over MU!
-
Oh the irony!
There are people in this world who don't get it and never will.
-
Not sure if this was posted already, but any decision not to make an online stream available is from the MU/UWM end. Not NCAA. The Mizzou/Kansas has a stream available - granted it's $40.

So now the badgers are playing N. Iowa in a fund raiser on 11/1 EXCEPT the tickets are free(they are suggesting donations), how do you raise funds that way? Certainly with over a week and their large proud fanbase they could have sold tickets.

Now we will be able to hear how Bucky started charitable exhibition games wayyyyyyy before any other team...............similar to jump around.

They were passing the baskets at the Marquette game. I saw a great deal of cash going in them, but I doubt the average would have matched what they charged for tickets.
-
Well, the MU-UWM game raised at least $31,755 according to the check presented to the Red Cross at the game. That's before the in-game collections were added. Does anyone know how much was collected?
Let's see what big old bucky raises in their big old arena.

It's great that we raised tens of thousands; without question a great thing.
But if we're going to start making comparisons, it's worth mentioning that we could likely have dramatically increased the donation with a big name opponent from a lapsed rivalry (ND?). For example, it is estimated that the KU-Mizzou game raised over $1.8 million.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/vahe-gregorian/article180343846.html
Again, this is not a criticism of what MU and UWM did - it is wonderful that they did anything. But let's not get into the comparison game, lest we open ourselves up to comparisons that don't look so great.
-
Kansas/Missouri also had a pay-per-view stream of the game; had Marquette done the same I would have definitely donated.

Thought there was an NCAA limitation on media coverage re waivers for such charity games?

Well to be fair, there are very few matchups that would make more than KU-Mizzou (KU and Mizzou HATE each other).
-
Plus, they had close to 19,000 at the Sprint Center.
-
Let MU play ND, the first game of the new arena next year, they would fill it for charity for sure.
-

I get that. I was just reacting to a comment about how much we raised, which seemed to assume that it would probably be more than UW ("big old bucky") raises.
Anyhow, great that we did this.

Hi guys,
As someone going through this experience. Let me say every little bit helps. As I've said before I'm better than most, lost a few material things that will be replaced. Have had to endure long lines for everything, no power, comms when I'm lucky (getting a lot better, but so slow I don't post often, posting in front of City Hall where I can get some wifi). This city is lucky as it is recovering faster than most. Just want to say thanks to all who donate no matter the amount and that I'm proud of MU to be one of the first to do the game/charity thing. Lots more has to be done as thousands of people survived this with only the clothes they had on. Lets not make this into who is raising more or less (I know it's Scoop ) Thanks all! Love you all!
