Congrats to Vander. Partially guaranteed.

Would be cool to see Vander playing for the Lakers and Jamil playing for the Clippers.

Congrats to Vander. Hope he can stick.

This is fantastic news for Vander. He has a chance to get into training camp and earn a spot on the team now. I believe if he makes the roster he will be able to stay in the league for longer than a cup of coffee.
Hard work rewarded.

Chitown, we've heard before that Vander is too far removed from school to be eligible for a two way.
-

I believe Dwight had a partial guarantee when he signed with Toronto. I think as Chitown said it simply is about how much money he is guaranteed. Really it could simply mean that he had a couple camp offers but LA wanted to keep him around and guaranteed a certain figure to make it happen. It doesn't mean that he's going to make the team by any stretch.
-
$50k, hey?

$50k, hey?
I was going to guess $100k or so. That gives him a little more than a two way contract would.

Ah OK. Thanks. Really not much of a guaranty. Pretty much the minimum value of a two way contract. So he will be a two way player without filling in that role.

That is what is being reported. The good news is he has a chance to make the team.

1 year/$1,471,382, w/ $50G guaranteed. So if he bounces back and forth, he'll still make pretty good $$ (pretty good, in real life, that is).

I explained this years ago.
He doesn't want to. (Head Coach, that is, due to the terms of his I4 contract. He'd be paying I4 to coach). He'll be fine at some point.

So good--happy for VB. Thankful for what he did here.

Does anyone know how much he'll earn on such a contract? Does it make it worthwhile for spending time in the D-League vs. going overseas? Can it evolve into a 2 way contract or is it now NBA or bust?

Can always count on you to take a joke and insert a know-it-all perspective. We all know you are the man, you have press passes for high school basketball, crystal bowl is a joke, etc...
I think anyone that reads this board regularly is well aware of his contract.
My gut is that he would also be willing to take something like the Gtown job if offered. Ego trumps all...you should know that.
-
And not that anything cream says is true...but his thoughts from a sports illustrated interview:
"Crean also made it clear that he wants to coach again. And soon. He said he’d prefer to be on the sideline next season. He’d like a job where it’s possible to win a national title but made it clear that he’d study all the opportunities carefully."

Crean will likely take any Big East/ ACC/Big Ten/Pac 12/ Big 12/SEC job he is offered. Anything else would be on a case by case basis.
-
Kudo's to Blue. If he ends up landing a real contract with staying power, he really proves the American Dream is alive and cooking. I love people that gamble on themselves.

Best thing you can do is practice. Day after day. Toughest step is the first one. Good for you on taking the leap.

Quick recap:
avid1010 asks if Crean has gotten any work. I reply that, again, this has been explained -- he's not going to get a HC job this year. Not in his best interests.
avid1010 proclaims he's upset by my response. Says I don't need be a "know-it-all" because I reminded him that he's not taking a job this year.
Then follows up his whining to me with more of the same crap.. "well, uhh.. in March right after he was fired he said he'd like to coach again right away".
smh. It has nothing to do with me. You're just not understanding the situation.

The partially guaranteed contracts can really vary. They can be from a few thousand to close to a rookie minimum annual contract approaching $800,000 to a million. I think the Celtics had 3-4 guys with partial guarantees of $25,000.
If he doesn't make the team he gets the minimum guarantee amount. If he makes the team he is paid something near minimum salary for as long as he's on the team. Once he has surpassed the guaranteed amount in salary he can be released with no further compensation from the team.
A European contract could bring $50,000 to $80,000 a month for a decent player.

i get that...i work around those situations very frequently in my profession. people give up essentially free $$$ because a good situation arises and they don't want to risk that situation not being there a year from now. what TC said in his interview makes sense to me...he wanted to coach right away at a championship level university. those schools weren't interested.
as much as i despise the man...he isn't going to sit on his a$$.

Honestly, most coaches who are fired but still getting paid typically take at least a year off. They get to enjoy a year of being paid to do nothing, it gives time for the embarrassment of being fired (which could affect his job prospects) to fade, and it gives them time to do an effective job search. I doubt Crean had any interest in any of the job openings this year.

the conversation started with me stating that crean was a prick, and then asking if he found work, as a means to show the schools HE said he'd be interested in coaching immediately for must not have had interest in him. jay bee then decided to state that he solved this issue years ago...so i gave it back. i'll stand by my belief that he'd take an OSU or GTown job if offered....today. a butler level school...maybe not. would crean lie...absolutely, that's why i refer to him as a prick. i was simply using his own words against him.
do i think he has a huge ego, and wants to ensure he ends up at a good school...absolutely. do i think he cares more about his ego than his wallet...i do.

What is meant by a "two-way" contract?
-
What is meant by a "two-way" contract?
http://hoopshype.com/2017/07/19/hoopshype-explains-how-do-two-way-contracts-work/
"NBA rosters are capped out at a maximum 15 players (and a minimum of 12), and going forward teams will be allowed to have up to two additional flexible roster spots, bring the total to 17 players on an NBA roster.
The new setup is also extremely cost-effective for teams. Players under a two-way contract aren’t counted against the salary cap, and will be restricted free agents after their deal expires. A two-way contract can only be up to two years, and no bonuses, extra compensation or options for future years can be included. The NBA season is split into 170 days, and a player on a two-way deal can only spend 45 days with their NBA team receiving the minimum salary, which is set at $815,615 for the 2017-18 season. The rest of the 125 days, the player will be payed at the rate of their G League salary capped at $75,000. In a best case scenario, the salary math works out to roughly around $280,000."

According to this article, Blue's the heavy favorite to get that second two-way contract.
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/sports/Lakers-Training-Camp-Roster-2017-18-445970363.html (http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/sports/Lakers-Training-Camp-Roster-2017-18-445970363.html)
"Under new NBA rules, each team is allowed to sign two extra players to two-way contracts. After a strong Summer League, point guard Alex Caruso claimed one of those highly coveted two-way contracts, and the likes of Briante Weber, Stephen Zimmerman and V.J. Beachem face an uphill climb to beat out Vander Blue for that second two-way contract.
Blue is the reigning MVP of the NBA Development League, which re-branded to the G-League after earning a sponsorship from Gatorade. So, the guard is the favorite to secure that extra contract, and Blue's strong play in a championship winning campaign in the 2017 Summer League surely helped the cause for third-year guard out of Marquette."

Really good article, but turning down a 7 figure contract overseas?!?!
-
Vander has matured and is very focused. I watched all the summer games this year and he really held it together and prospered. Hopefully, he finds his way onto the Lakers or at least gets the one two way contract they have left. If not, I think someone else will pick him up. He has worked hard on improving the areas he needed to improve.
If he does not make it this go around, he should go overseas for top dollar.

That was my thought. 4 year, $1.2MM deal or something like that. Wouldn't be that far fetched, especially for a proven scorer. I really hope Vander sticks cause this article makes it seem like he's grown a lot and his work ethic is great. But otherwise, he's the kind of player who would light it up for one of the Euroleague caliber teams.
-
Vander got in for 7 minutes in the Lakers preseason opener. 5 points. 1-2 from the field and 2-2 free throws. Had 2 Boards and No Turnovers. Had a plus 5 rating. 13 players got in the game. The other guard he is competing against did not get in the game. Josh Hart also out with hamstring and not playing next game (Monday) as well.
Rooting hard for Vander to make the squad.

Vander played 8 minutes last night. Had 2 points 1-2 shooting 1 board no turnovers and a plus 11 rating. 15 players got in the game. The other guard he is competing against did not get in the game again. Josh Hart also injured again.
Vander is working hard to do exactly what Luke Walton is looking for .
