Nice article. Thanks for posting. I think the early work throughout the offseason will really pay off for the incoming freshmen. Getting to know their teammates is vital, as well.

The graduation of Luke Fischer and Jajuan Johnson and the graduate transfer of Duane Wilson leave Marquette with a lack of experienced leadership.

1. I guess Katin no matta.

2. Well, we know who Sand Knit isn't, because this author didn't rip Luke.

i said this after the first time i saw matt get a few minutes-he's gonna be a nice player.  he showed a court presence and poise you can't teach.  now he welcomes playing with guys who are going to be taking some of his PT.  he not only welcomes them, he engages them and in the process, learns from them=win win win win

Yep.  Seems like a great kid, and will definitely contribute the next couple of seasons.

Yes. But I do hope he doesn't contribute too much. If he has to play more than 10-15 minutes (and closer to 10 than 15), methinks it will mean we aren't a good enough team.

how do you know where matt is with his development since you last saw him play?  me thinks if he is playing 10-15, wojo feels he's ready for 10-15.  me also thinks it's a big leap to go from teenage girls basketball coach to mens div I college ball.  and besides, when he's hangin around half-court, he's gonna pull a defender with him, eyn'a?

I just remember the 2 lay-ups that he missed against South Carolina, he still has along way to go.  For Matt, it is good that he is going against Morrow, John, Froling
even Eke in practice.  Is Froling out of his boot and practicing yet?  Can Froling or John working on playing the 4 so Sam can play the 3?

You are correct. Heldt could improve markedly from the kid who looked too scared to be on the court against South Carolina. I hope so because we're gonna need him, especially before Froling is eligible.

I do not pretend to know more than Wojo, but that doesn't mean I agree with him on everything. For example, I would not have given Derrick anywhere near the minutes he got in Wojo's first year.

I will say that if I am unable to do even a little second-guessing of a men's college coach because I am "only" a girls HS coach (and only an assistant at that!), I guess that means a dentist never gets to second-guess any coach of any sport at any level. Never, ever, ever. EVER.

For that matter, a dentist should not be allowed to talk about politics, religion, entertainment, current events, history, etc.

Yep, dentists are pretty much limited to talking only about molars, bicuspids and attempts to shag the hygienist.

never said you or anyone else for that matter couldn't do any 2nd guessing; opinions are like...everyone has one

rule #1, 2, 3 and...never ever ever EVER "poke" the help unless you're married to him/her

Well, what you said was: me also thinks it's a big leap to go from teenage girls basketball coach to mens div I college ball.

Please forgive me if I was wrong to think you were implying that a girls HS coach had absolutely no business ever disagreeing with any coach above the girls HS level. I don't know how I possibly could have thought that.

I was at Summerfest when MU was there. Froling took part in the three point contest and lost to a kid. the kid hit 7 out of 10 threes. Froling hit  4-10. Cain and Rowsey also lost their contests. Wojo made Rowsey shoot his threes from half court.

The dunk contest between Cain and Morrow was interesting. Morrow won. He basically replicated Cain's dunks'. Cain did a reverse dunk. Morrow did the same dunk, but was much more vicious in throwing it down. Cain for his second dunk dunked over Marotta. Morrow lined up Rowsey behind Marotta and dunked over both of them.

So Froling looked like he was moving normally now?  Or did he have a slight limp?
